Rouse, Ross, what ever. I drove a friend there a year ago, waited inside the room by the parking lot on the left, anyway, not a shabby place. I just think we all will never agree where the money should be spent, and on what. But at the end of the day, it really is not us who makes that decision. So it does not matter how much we disagree with each other. Every1 will never be happy about this money being spent and on what.....

City does not need to build a new jail. Convert the ghost fleet to a floating prison. Inmates dont learn much and probably do not know how to swim. They will drown trying to escape and all the taxpayers will save lots of money. :)

well i can tell you not to spend the money on roads or anything that won't make a difference! whats the point of spending money on roads if half of the popualtion in our city doesnt even have their own vehicle. that would only help the people who actually have money to buy their own car and put gas in the car, and drive and drive and drive, which is also hurting us. seriously if it was healthy you would put your face right up to the exaust and inhail them fumes but its not so you keep away. so put the money towards food for people who cant afford it or clothes and shoes. Anything, people with really messed up teeth, lol, help the community not destroy the earth.

I don't think so, they probably pay some kinf of rent; but, City employees work there and citizens come there. Not all are on welfare either. Compare it to City Center, City Hall, and the new Police buiding where employees and citizens go to, and you can see the difference.
If that is the case then the city should require the landlord to fix the place or look for another place to rent. Tax dollars shouldn't be spent fixing up private property.

And yet, they still find the money to buy computers and internet access.... I have to worry about my finances, not theirs, since I am supporting most of them anyways

Come Sheriff Gabe Morgan make yourself famous, use the ghost fleet for a prison boat and you will get more publicity then the tent city Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Of course you'll have to dress them in weird color overalls. How about lavender the prisoner will love it and might make them more peaceful. Not laughing actually trying to be very serious.

Just wondering how that could actually work. It would still be dangerous for the deputies. If the darn thing sinks, then we've lost a good deputy...lol. Maybe we should load em up with prisoners, float it out as far as we can, and just leave it there disabled.??? That could work.

Hey people doesn't the Navy have barge dorms? I think there used to be some over in the Southside shipyards. This is not such a far fetched idea!! If it's good for our Navy it should good enough for at least weekenders and non violents. And we should require them to catch and cook their own supper. This is worth asking the Sheriff about.

The city needs to rebuild the Deep Creek Pier with the funds it took from Parks and Recreation to demolish it and rebuild the wharf at Menchville. They intend on repaying that debt with the same amount from the surplus.$350,000 floating back and forth. Hmmmm sounds like they can say they have a debt when they don't. Come on Newport News, tell us the truth!

its a shine, actually if you would check into all the other cities and states that have public skate parks, you would see there has been very few if any in most cities of claims. Williamsburg has a nice little skate park and has no claims. There is no one there to watch it when it is open, kids do not have to wear protective gear, there is a sign that says not responsible for any injuries. Also, as far as sports go, statitics show that out of 10 sports, skateboarding injuries are #9 on the list of having the least injuries. More people get hurt on the public ball fields, and such, than they do skateboarding.
No way! There are countless skate related injuries probably more so than other sports. The victims probably just don't report them. Also where did you find your "statistic" I'd like to see them. The fact of the matter is: the number of kids who don't skate or play other sports are exponential compared to those that do, so why spend 6m on a park not even 600 people would use.
