Even if "R&D" was viable, where is the money to pay for it. If Obama really cared about American workers why is he spending $160 million of taxpayers money on an African vacation? Why is he leaving behind a $2 billion check of American taxpayer's money to pay for development there? Do you realize how much $2 billion is? That's enough money to pay the salaries of 45,000 coal miners for a full year!
Unbelievable!, you guys need to step out of the box you live in so you can see the wider world. Obama is in Africa trying to drum up business because the Chinese are all over Africa like a rash. They are building dams, rail roads, highways you name it. What do they get in exchange, resources such as oil, coal and minerals. Imagine that, the Chinese moving in gain vital relationship with all these developing countries and later sell them copies of Toyota trucks and copies of cruise missiles. Yet you want to say its Obama on a African vacation spending your money. See how there is more to government than just the coal fields in the south.

You Obamanite enviro-nazis like to bash us ignorant Appalachian coal miners and southerners, but we are not alone. Even people in California, where environmentalism was born, are starting to recognize it for the diabolical anti-American plot that it really is. Some examples:

--From Chico, CA

“Man-caused Global Warming (AGW) has _no_ scientific peer reviewed validity. It is basically a fraud perpetrated by people and organizations with other agendas, like cripple the developed nations with inane regulations that will do _nothing_ to change the warming or cooling of the climate which is almost entirely solar driven. CO2 is _not_ a "pollutant"! It is a necessary component of life on earth. The percentage CO2 in the atmosphere has been much higher in the past and life went on just fine.”

--From Oakland, CA

“You people pull your heads out of the sand!!!
Global warming is one of the biggest scams that has ever been pulled-over on a group of people since Hitler fooled the Germans and was given power! Global warming is simply a vehicle for government to TAX and REGULATE people! And justify there special interests!!! Don't you people remember how big the sun is compared to the size of the earth? It would be like looking at a large Grapefruit and the head of a straight pin,
Don't you people remember the earth went through an Ice Age? People wake up! The forces at work here are to great for all of mankind to control!Heck we can not control the weather!”

--From Victorville, CA

“Every "Academy of Science" organization in the world has used faulty, fraudulent data to "prove" global warming exists. No one can trust these people because they have an agenda and fudge the numbers in order to get more funding for their false claims of global warming. It's all about the money and keeping themselves employed. Without the phony data, they would be out of work, so they make things up in order to keep that paychecks coming in. Open your eyes. In the 70's the threat was global cooling, another agenda based study to keep the PhD types employed. Wake up America.”

--From Cathedral City, CA

“The Greenies want to steal your car. How else are the enviro-nazis going to lower carbon emissions? The nut-job legislator who proposed 'interactive' thermostats shows that the Green Fascists also have a bone to pick with your air conditioner. There is NO scientific evidence that carbon levels effect temperature. None. AB 32 is another gambit by the totalitarian left to control our lives using stupid Chicken Little scare tactics. There is only one way to "break our addiction to oil"--take your car away. You think they wont do it? Let Prop 23 fail, and it will, and find out.”

--From San Francisco, CA

“The theory of global warming is sponsed by people that will make a lot of money off the American public if they can convince us it is true.”

The feds already rig the tests of anything to come up with the results they want. Anyone remeber Boone Pickens? He was all over the news channels talking about how great and clean natural gas is just before Obama got elected. That should end some of the mystery about who owns Obama and every other president before him for the last 20 years.

How much did "W" pledge to Africa for AIDS eradication? I think it was a little more than 2 bils. Was that wasted or was that the start of US interest in Africa?

Africa is only now beginning to be exploited. The colonizers did a half-ass job. It's a new market and it's still full of resources. That's what Barry's working on.

These deniers don't have much sense. They never paid attention to the news or history teachers, geography or politics. And especially science. Now that they do, they get it all wrong, mainly from Faux Noose.

At more than $5 billion a year in humanitarian aid to Africa, President Bush has given more assistance to the continent than any other president. His administration’s aid was largely targeted to fight the major global health issues facing the continent, HIV/AIDS and malaria.

In 2003 Bush founded the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which guaranteed $15 million to be spent over the course of five years on prevention, treatment and research on HIV/AIDS. Under the Bush administration, the U.S. was also a leader in contributing to the Global Fund on AIDS.

In 2005 Bush started a $1.2 billion initiative to fight malaria. He defended the request for funding in 2007, saying,“There’s no reason for little babies to be dying of mosquito bites around the world.”

Probably Bush's greatest, strike that, only (good) legacy.

Why would Emperor O. do that? He wants rid of coal, right?
Besides, it wouldn't turn out like you seem to think it would. Ever hear of a guy named Nicolae Ceaucescu? He was the communist dictator of Rumania, sort of its uncrowned king. He sent his goons into a coal mining town called Timisoara to put down what amounted to a sit down strike by coal miners. It was a little more than the gestapo could handle so they called on the local version of the National Guard. Well, the Guard, like the Kentucky Guard, was composed of a lot of miners and their relatives. It just didn't go like old Nick planned. Want to send some city slickers from New York City or Chicago into these mountains, against locals...
This isn't Rumania, pinhead. Go dig some coal or something.

If the Chinese want to try their hand at developing Africa, let them. Africa never developed a home grown civilization. The few "civilizations" that politically correct "Social Studies" books (they don't call themselves history and I'm glad they don't) talk about were transplanted by Arab conquerors. When the Arabs became Africanized after a few generations, the so-called civilization collapsed. The Portuguese, Dutch, British, French, and Germans all tried civilizing and developing Africa. All of the treasure and work that they poured into Africa ended up nothing. The Soviet Union tried in Somalia and Ethiopia after the end of the colonial era. Results? Well just look at Somalia. China will get the same results and learn the same lesson.

Globalisation has empowered a lot of smaller countries to make their contribution to the world's economic machine. Whether that be a sweat shop in Bangladesh making clothes for Walmart or a small farm coffee grower in Africa supplying coffee for Starbucks. It doesn't matter where you are, the all powerful corporations find a way of getting product to market these days taking advantage of cheap. It's the same with foreign policy, if you let the Chinese influence start to dominate all these smaller countries not only do they reap the benefit of cheap resources it also means less they buy less from everyone else. So who are you going to sell your coal to after that happens ?
Plus the added benefit of political influence which is even more important. Remember the paranoia of conservative America post WW2 the McCarthy era when commies were everywhere. Then the Cuban crisis in the 60's until the Berlin Wall fell. American's went to war in a bunch of foreign countries to stop the spread of communism.
Yet you say its ok, for China to start to dominate world both economically & politically because all you want to do is keep selling your coal for now. There is more to government than the price of gas & beer.

Words lifted right from the pages of white supremecist/American Nazi Party propaganda newsletters.

Ignores the great pre-Christian Egyptian civilization.

Ignores the influence of geography in the development of civilization; the Tigris-Euphrates valley, the Nile River, the Mediterranean.

Ignores the difference in cultures, size of population, trade routes.

Ignores history, as ignorance always does.

This is the reality of Africa past, present, and future:

I say again, if the Chinese want to involve themselves in Africa, every encouragement to them. It will sap their strength and destroy them just like it destroyed every other power that tried.

No surprise that a coal-field dumbass is also a racist who is completely ignorant of history and anthropology, too.

Typical "Politically Correct" libtard response to anyone who dares tell the truth about Africa: call them a racist.

The European colonizers tried to do the exact same thing that you say the Chinese want to do. They wanted to develop Africa in order to use its cheap labor to extract its great mineral wealth as raw materials for their home industries and turn Africans into customers for the manufactured goods that those European industries produced. The Europeans failed and the Chinese will fail for the same reasons.

With our huge national debt and all the needs that we have at home, it is idiotic for the U.S. to be pouring American taxpayers' money down an African sinkhole.

Your problem is that you AREN'T telling the truth, you're telling the European colonial story. Pretending you're telling the truth when you're lying is still just lying.

Europeans have exploited Africa for its human labor and physical resources since at least the 17th century, with help from Arabs and the Africans themselves, but they have only recently "helped develop" Africa at ALL.
