Absolutely correct. One bad apple spoils the whole bunch. It takes balls to do it though and that is what this society is so badly lacking these days. The real word for it is known as "Integrity"

Try firing a bad cop, let alone a dozen bad apples.

To the Editor:
Sgt. Mark Preston's problems didn't start with a Sunday evening of drinking and the charges he's facing won't solve his problems while his court case winds through the system south of the border. Preston's problems only add more questions regarding the Seabrook Police Department.
Not long ago, Officer Jeremy Tetreault, according to news articles, pursued a vehicle into North Hampton against a red light at a speed near 100 miles per hour. That crash resulted in injury to another and a total loss to the vehicle he was operating. As far as the public knows, Tetreault was never disciplined for his wrongful actions and if he was, the public should have been told.
Seabrook police personnel need a mission statement to live by and rules and regulations that are in place, enforced fairly from the top down. Just as important, they need a leader they respect; one who sees a potential problem and takes corrective measures before it becomes another Tetreault or Preston.
The governing body needs to look beyond the smoke-filled office of the chief and take action sooner rather than later.
They could start by enforcing the town's bylaw that states that the chief shall reside in the Town of Seabrook within one year of appointment. Seabrook's former chief Currier complied with the rule, what gives Chief Manthorn a pass or when was the bylaw voted out by the residents?
Seabrook Police personnel deserve better and the residents paying the bills should demand it.
