I said a prayer for you this Thanksgiving, knowing how you loved the holiday.
Thinking back on Thanksgivings from the past-you loved our mother's sweet yeast rolls, the turkey and all the trimmings.
Rest in peace dear brother; you are not forgotten.

Thinking about my brother on what would have been his birthday today. Remembering how he loved the layered heart shaped coconut cake mother use to bake for him on his special day.
RIP dear brother.

Happy birthday dear brother...

I made a coconut pie in your memory and honor. I remember who much you liked them; our Dad would bring one home on a Fri. night after work.

“You - you alone will have the stars as no one else has them...In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night...You - only you - will have stars that can laugh.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, El Principito

I love you and carry your heart in my heart.

It is coming up on 5 years since my beloved brother Anthony passed-carrying his heart in my heart.

When Great Trees Fall

When great trees fall, rocks on distant hills shudder, lions hunker down in tall grasses, and even elephants lumber after safety.

When great trees fall in forests, small things recoil into silence, their senses eroded beyond fear.

When great souls die, the air around us becomes light, rare, sterile. We breathe, briefly. Our eyes, briefly, see with a hurtful clarity. Our memory, suddenly sharpened, examines, gnaws on kind words unsaid, promised walks never taken.

Great souls die and our reality, bound to them, takes leave of us. Our souls, dependent upon their nurture, now shrink, wizened. Our minds, formed and informed by their radiance, fall away. We are not so much maddened as reduced to the unutterable ignorance of dark, cold caves.

And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms, slowly and always irregularly. Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric vibration. Our senses, restored, never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.~ Maya Angelou

A limb fell from our family tree. I keep hearing Anthony's voice say, “Grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, and the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls. I miss you all dearly, so keep your chin up. Until the day comes we’re together again, don’t forget I love you.”
