now if we can only bring back true Catholicism...

We are all sinners. I am a sinner. However, most of us Christians pray and try not to repeat sins.

Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell. But most of all they offend Thee my God who are all good and deserving of all of my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy Grace to Confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life Amen.

This prayer was watered down after vatican II. Along with the sacraments.

Thanks to prayers and Catholic Action, st marys is going to be open once again..
If it was your parish closing, it would be a different story.
Man you people are weird. YOu say you're Catholics yet you bash anyone who tries to reason with you. Churches have closed for centuries. It's nothing new. Hello....We're in a Recession. Sure there have been coverups. There have been coverups since the time of Christ. You're all a bunch of hypocrites. Your statements aren't respectful of God and the Church. People have broken away from the Catholic Church for nearly 2000 years. Why do you think there are so many Christian denominations? If you don't like the Catholic Church then form your own religion or join another one. DOn't be a HATER!

What in the world are yotalking about Livefree?
Yes, there are some people who find it abhorent that the Catholic heiarchy have reassigned pedophile priests. There are some who have also bashed Bishop Galante.

I thought we were in a free country, able to express our ideas and even our own opinions. Is there something wrong in doing so? You are aware you can express your opinions and thoughts without fear of not loving the Catholic Church.

Churches do close and also are burned down. When churches are closed, there is a proper procedure, repectful of the church and the parishoners. Such was not the case for St. Mary's of Malaga.

What I find amusing is how the current pastor has been able to really bring the community together, rather than tear it apart.

What's so amusing of a pastor bringing the community together? Good for him! Good for him! People don't have to bash the Catholic Church because of their dislike of its decisions. We are all entitled to our own opinions! God Bless America! OF course we ALL can express our opinions and thoughts without fear of any MAN but we all answer to GOD. The Church and us answer to GOD! Don't ever forget that! Don't be a HATER!

I am only basing my opinions solely based on the SaveSTMary website and those who post here. God bless all who are saddened on the loss of their church. Some of the posts I"ve seen have been very disgraceful and very UNCatholic- very UnChristian from those who are PRO and CON of ST Mary's closing.

Yes LiveFree there are trolls amongst us, that is for sure. Simply put,Catholic churches when closed, are still Catholic Churches, sacred ground.

As to St. Mary's, well it is an interesting development. The church is open, but no regular priest will be assigned. In turn, it will not be spun off as a separate parish as well. In essence, it's open, due to special circumstances.

St. Athanasius (A.D. 296 - A.D. 2 May 373), known as the "Father of Orthodoxy," was Bishop of Alexandria at the height of the power of the Arians who denied the two natures of Christ (i.e., they denied His Divinity). The Arians gained great influence in the Church, their power becaming so vast that the majority of Bishops could be described as Arian. He was excommunicated by Pope Liberius, driven from his see by a heretic usurper and spent his life in and out of exile. The letter below was written to those Catholics who suffered under the Arians, seeing ecclesiastical authority and church buildings overtaken by heretics.

May God comfort you. I know moreover that not only this thing saddens you, but also the fact that while others have obtained the churches by violence, you are meanwhile cast out from your places. For they hold the places, but you the Apostolic Faith. They are, it is true, in the places, but outside of the true Faith; while you are outside the places indeed, but the Faith, within you. Let us consider whether is the greater, the place or the Faith. Clearly the true Faith. Who then has lost more, or who possesses more? He who holds the place, or he who holds the Faith? Good indeed is the place, when the Apostolic Faith is preached there, holy is it if the Holy One dwell there.(After a little:) But ye are blessed, who by faith are in the Church, dwell upon the foundations of the faith, and have full satisfaction, even the highest degree of faith which remains among you unshaken. For it has come down to you from Apostolic tradition, and frequently has accursed envy wished to unsettle it, but has not been able. On the contrary, they have rather been cut off by their attempts to do so. For this is it that is written,'Thou art the Son of the Living God,' Peter confessing it by revelation of the Father, and being told,'Blessed art thou Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood did not reveal it to thee, but 'My Father Who is in heaven,' and the rest. No one therefore will ever prevail against your Faith most beloved brethren. For if ever God shall give back the churches (for we think He will) yet without such restoration of the churches the Faith is sufficient for us. And test, speaking without the Scriptures, I should seem to speak too strongly, it is well to bring you to the testimony of Scriptures, for recollect that the Temple indeed was at Jerusalem; the Temple was not deserted, aliens had invaded it, whence also the Temple being at Jerusalem, those exiles went down to Babylon by the judgment of God, who was proving, or rather correcting them; while manifesting to them in their ignorance punishment [by means] of blood-thirsty enemies. And aliens indeed had held the Place, but knew not the Lord of the Place while in that He neither gave answer nor spoke they were deserted by the truth. What profit then is the Place to them?

For behold they that hold the Place are charged by them that love God with making it a den of thieves, and with madly making the Holy Place a house of merchandise, and a house of judicial business for themselves to whom it was unlawful to enter there. For this and worse than this is what we have heard, most beloved, from those who are come from thence. However really, then, they seem to hold the church, so much the more truly are they cast out. And they think themselves to be within the truth, but are exiled, and in captivity, and gain no advantage by the church alone. For the truth of things is judged...

At Mass today at all 3 Catholic Churches in Hammonton- St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish were told that St. Martin de Porres Chruch is closing. Looks like a good location to put up Condos by Hammonton Lake Park. I knew eventually Hammonton couldn't sustain having 3 Churches when nationwide churches are closing left and right.

It's about time they closed one of the churches. There are 3 of them in Hammonton. The costs are just too high to maintain so many churches with rising heating costs and insurance. Plus most people nowadays can't even afford to make any weekly donation over $10 according to the finance committee's report.

Why does it say Philly in my post? I'm a proud Hammontonian. Do I have to register to post? I don't want to out of fear of vendetta.

Good point AnnaBee.
That is about registering. However, if you forget, they will put you in some sort of cummunity. Take advantage you "are" in Philadelphia, that way no one knows your real location, lol.

It is amusing to assume that St. Mary's closed simply because of financial reasons. When does one close a church? When there is a deficit of $10,000,$50,000 or $100,000? The financial reasons I am sure were not the driving force for closure. Rather, the opportunity was perfect to close the church. The boiler was in need of repair, winter weather is coming, and the "cost" would be to "high" to repair the boiler. The answer was self evident as well as the objective, close St. Mary's.
It seems very easy for you to pass judgement on this topic..
Let me tell you that I grew up in malaga and attended Saint Mary's through out my childhood.

I received my communion and confirmation ,.as did my two brothers.
To you it's merely a small church and means nothing ,but to others it holds some very dear memories of a time when the world made some sense.

Also for you and many others here is a history lesson , A lady and native of Malaga left this church )SAINT MARY'S) OVER $ 1,000,000,000 dollars upon her death.. Her Name is TESSIE DiMATTEO who resided on Old Harding Hwy. MALAGA her entire life..

This money was given to this church ONLY AND only TO THIS CHURCH so it could continue to operate..
So where did it end up? I think this information should be investigated and determined WHO did what with her Million dollars that was intended for SAINT MARY'S... It make one think what happened to Tessie's Money..

It is very sad. I remember hearing on the news in Nashville,TN years ago of someone leaving a house to Billy Graham Evangelist Crusader and it was SOLD! The man gave it for them to use it and they SOLD it! How many WILLS are written with humble hearts and greedy in sheep's clothing are in the wings or holding the ink pen that just SIGNED it over upon their death, are lurking the elderly as I type.

My heart is with yours. Change is like a death and will be gone. Enjoy right now as much as you can.
Love.

That's very disturbing how people donated all they had to the church in hopes that the teachings of Jesus can continue in their neighborhood. Just because a few priests didn't LIVE the teachings of Christ shouldn't punish the congregation. These sinners felt that they were entitled to being beyond the reach of the law. Everyone should follow the laws of this state, this country but most importantly God's Ten Commandments.

Actually you are slightly mis-informed. There was a holding period for the money to be used. Also the money was supposed to be used to build a new church. That is what was said in the newspapers and the like.

Perhaps you feel my thoughts do not have the emotional attachment you have to St. Mary's of Malaga. I enjoyed going to St. Mary's and still go to church as well. The current pastor has been the peace keeper, and has united the greater amount of parishoners from St. Mary's to the new parish. Gone are the two strong personalities. One prayerful the other his way or hit the highway....
