St. Croix County cops are completely incompetent. there is no reason they needed to fire 10 shots at this guy. That is excessive and I hope the family takes legal action. It just goes to show you how poor our legal system is at addressing mental illness. My thoughts are with this family.
If a person was attempting to jump off of a tall building then law enforcement would be able to assess mental illness...when faced with a loaded weapon, conversation is limited, he was given the opportunity to drop his weapon and continue dialogue.
Law enforcement agents do not aspire to run on out and shoot people dead, they are human as well.
This is a very unfortunate situation where no one was able to see his depression until it was too late and add alcohol to the mix that night and it was a suicide wish.
The two deputies have to live with this incident for the rest of their lives as well as the affected family and it affects even more who are friends and family of all parties.
There is a lot to take into consideration in this event and making assumptions based on emotion only hurts the situation, as painful as the loss is, nothing will change this.
To address the "incompetency", you live in a town that is covered by St. Croix County Sheriff's Department...next election maybe you should run. You don't know the specifics of the case, don't speculate on what excessive is.
