Everybody got letters from Peck Edwards that the thing was done and he has the money. Yet, there's nothing anywhere that says how much, when it was settled.

What gives?

Thanks Jesse
My folks got a letter from your Peck Edwards stating that "the money is here". There was a little name taking, but noone got any details.Since then, the attorney has been on vacation and various other such projects that are apparently more important tahn a twenty-five year old lawsuit. If there was different representation, would it have been settled ,oh, say, twenty years ago?

Could you enlighten me as to what bill#1158 is?
I cannot find any information on it. There has been no information forthcoming on this subject. I know there was a big trial amongst the attornies on Monday from the Ponchatoula Times.
We are trying to find out what is going on.

I have been trying my hardest to keep up with this suit. My father has been waiting forever for this money to come. I can remember when he put me on his shoulders and had to swim us out of our house. I was 5 then, now 30. My father could have used that money and probably wouldn't be where he is now. He died Sept 6, 2008 at age 54. He did nothing but struggle since the flood. That money could have helped him when times were hard. He was always trying to get back on track. I know you probably don't want to hear it, but I'm still grieving for my loss. I WANT ANSWERS right along with the rest of you. Hopefully I will still be alive when they finally settle.

I don't think most are aware of all of the legal hold-ups on this case. The last we were told is that the "whole case was going federal" We were not aware there was another storm brewing with legal counsel. My mother called Peck's office the other day for more information and was told some very different information than that of which I just read. Does Layrission still represent us too? Who does? Can her contact the claimants? How do we find out what is going on. I gave a deposition along time ago with the state, gave photos, and spoke with the judge. Back then it seemed things were moving and now we seem to be drowning again in a sea of bureaucracy and mis-information. If the supreme court ruled in the favor of the claimants, and we met with doctors to fill out mountains of paperwork, what could be the possible motive to not make good on a Supreme Court ruling? I know as an individual, that would never fly! But... I could be lacking the information required to make sense of all of this. please contact me at e-mail - stars4ever@bellsouth.net if you have any new information Thanks,
Robert

I haven't heard a thing about the lawsuit in quite a while. The last time was about a year ago when we had to fill out all that paperwork for mental anguish. If anyone knows anything, whether fact or hearsay, please post a comment.I can't get a straight answer from anyone.

This appears to be the only visable action that I could get. The reality is that state law requires that any penalties paid out by the state has to be budgeted. Therefore, if it is not part of the budget, they are not going to pay. Pressure needs to be applied to the representatives to include Bills in every budget that addresses payment. I suggest calling Steve Pugh's office and see where it stands and where he intends to go with it. His last Bill amendment (June, 2008)was only 30 million out of a possible 303 million verdict. That amendment was rejected and never was included. http://www.legis.state.la.us/billdata/streamd...

It amazes me that we,the flood victims, can win a lawsuit and no one has to pay.The money is there to pay out,but it is up to our politicians to convince the state to pay up.We have been waiting 26 years, yet Katrina victims have gotten money in less than 4 years. You know the state is going to use these economic times as an excuse not to pay yet again.Maybe my grandkids might see this money someday.Don't be shy, give a call to Peck,Steve Pugh, and Jean-Paul Layrisson and ask what the hell is going on.They work for us.I call quite often and never get clear answers, maybe someone else will have better luck.I'm ready to stimulate my local economy with my share. Please post any new info or comments.

The Supreme Court ruled in our favor in 2006.The state has to pay,but like Robert said it it up to our poloticians to get them to pay.I suggesst giving everyone you can think of a call, like Pugh and Peck and try to get some kind of an answer.I have also called and seem to have gootten the run around too. They are supposed to try to get some money in this next special session which started this month.

the thing that makes me mad is that everytume you call one of those people they pretty much say the same thing (the money is here and it will be soon that the people of the 83 flood will get their money ) i spoke to pugh last week and he told me that the cournt is almost ready to pay but not yet i have no clue on where to go from here i think it is about time that the remaining people get together and go aginst the state cause i think the state just don,t care about us and that it

I think we all need to get together and make our voices heard.26 years is too long.Do we contact the local news media and bring attention to the situation? That may be an option.Maybe we can shame the state into giving us our money.
