Let's not place blame here. Let's help! Donate to your local food pantry and help feed those that are underfed. It's that simple.

I agree with you 100% Lolita Shih Tzu! It's a shame that a lot of people here can't even afford the basics (food) to survive, yet folks keep saying what a great place this is to live. BULLSH@! The "Haves" get richer; the "Have Nots" get poorer - and keep on struggling; and nothing is being done. What a shame.

Mandated e-verify would free up some jobs and working class Americans could buy food.

Free health care comes at a price
Are illegal residents' medical bills a moral obligation or an undue burden on taxpayers?

BY STEPHANIE CZEKALINSKI AND JILL RIEPENHOFF
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

..Ashcraft included, say that the consequences of withholding medical care from illegal immigrants are vast.

They can spread disease and increase taxpayer costs when conditions become a matter of life or death. Without prenatal care, babies are at risk of costly developmental problems. Without insulin, diabetics risk amputation, blindness, kidney failure and heart disease...

Maria expects to deliver her second child this month in Mount Carmel West hospital.

As they did two years ago, taxpayers will cover whatever Maria can't pay of her estimated $5,000 bill. She asked not to be fully identified because she fears neighbors will contact immigration agents.

Though Maria's husband works full time in a factory and pays income taxes, he does not have health insurance. The couple moved from Mexico six years ago.{ Did he chose not to pay for coverage?}

Medicaid coverage for Maria's two children will cost about $3,800 a year for routine pediatric care and immunizations. Maria's newborn will receive about $1,430 in WIC benefits during the first year of life. Her older daughter will receive about $480 a year in dairy products.

All told, Maria's children this year will receive nearly $6,000 worth of help. And that's if they're both healthy.

Maria doesn't comprehend that while these programs are free to her, they come at a cost to taxpayers."I apply just like all Americans," Maria said. "The hospital connects you with everything: WIC, Medicaid."

Advocates for tougher enforcement of immigration laws call people like Maria burdens on taxpayers. If the parents weren't living here illegally, their children wouldn't be tapping into public assistance.

What you describe "WTH" is the sad reality we are living nowdays!I am afraid it's going to get worse. The "American Dream" is a distant thing of the past. It lies next to the "pursue of happiness" granted by the Constitution. Or they are just concepts available to the top small percent of the "Haves".

Glenny must have more anchors for us to support.

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/faith_va...

As a mother of six, Glenny Rodriguez is accustomed to feeding a lot of mouths. The number will only go up on Thanksgiving, when the Whitehall woman is hosting a group of more than 20 for dinner.
Rodriguez, 29, is unemployed, so buying food is no easy expense.

Luckily, she volunteers as a Spanish translator

Glenny Rodriguez, flanked by 2-month-old daughter Jineily and boyfriend Vicente, feed more than 20 people on Thanksgiving. That includes her other children, from left, Vincent, 3, Carlos, 5, Alex, 7, Jimae, 9, and German, 11.

Many are hungry, many worry, and many will find themselves in a homeless shelter.
I have lost my job, am single with no children, and it's been almost 6 months since my unemployment has stopped. I did go back to school while unemployed since our government encouraged it and offered a tuition tax break to those that did. I have now found myself living off of student loans of about 500.00 per month. I do not qualify for any help with financial, medical, or anything because I do not have kids. I find it appalling and disgusting that people are having kids to get more handouts, when you have people like myself that can barely pay rent, let alone food. Try living on 500.00 per month without low income housing, paying bills, insurance, and of course the big one... food. I find myself standing in line at food banks trying to get food to eat, whereas two years ago, I was doing quite well for myself. I have applied now to over 100 jobs, including fast food (anything) and have only been on two interviews with no call backs. We need change alright, and I am sick and tired of the reports lying about how the economy is getting better and jobs are increasing... and then you see real news articles like this. WOW!

People drifted away from their Christian values of hard work. They went on a borrowing binge and traded real estate back and forth at ever escalating prices while nobody actually MAKES anything anymore. Now our society is suffering the terrible retribution for those sinful ways. I urge people to turn to prayer and hard work, and turn away from debt schemes, real estate schemes, Wall Street schemes and internet bamboozlery. Pick up a hammer and some nails, or a shovel or a wrench, and get back to work. Handouts will only make the situation worse and encourage the impoverished to breed, so we must have none of that. Do for yourself and atone for your sins and maybe God will assist you.

While the Senate debates tax cuts for the top 2% of the Country, millions more people will fall into poverty. Some will claim it's their own fault, while more sensible people will ask why corporations continue to get richer even as their outsource US jobs so that many people have no way to earn a decent wage. The American dream is dying for more and more of us everyday.

Nope, Arkansas is a "Right to Work" state. It will pull itself back up just fine.

The "pursuit of happiness" is in the Declaration of Independence.
