"Also yesterday, Second Harvest announced a campaign aimed at increasing awareness and enrollment in food stamps, Medicaid, energy assistance and other public benefit programs for low-income families."

That's fine, but how about doing something about 15 year-olds having babies and going on public assistance for most of the rest of their lives? We need to discourage that, not make sure they sign up for every dime they can milk out of tax-payers' paychecks.

Honestly, the picture of the little boy looking at the apples is heart-rending! I donate monthly to my local food bank.

OK, I'm all for taking care of kids and elderly but this should never be and for the dispatch to play it up with a photo of a child in line at the food pantry disgusts me. Here's what I mean, the government is always pushing its social welfare system, today with WICK and Food Stamps, no child should be standing in line at the food pantry unless mom or dad are not using the programs benefits appropriately. Lets do a little investigation here and find out why that child is standing in line. Maybe my taxes should be spent putting those who neglect their children into programs where they can learn not to neglect their children. We are a land of abundance, our "poor" are not really poor at all. In most countries around the world the poor sleeps in the streets and feeds at the garbage dump, here they get free medical, food, cable t.v. and a car.

It is not the fault of the child. If a child is hungry, we should help feed them! Look, I do not like the Democratic Party and I think they are enablers but again, it is not the fault of the little ones! You do not know the circumstances of people and neither do I. You don't have to help but I feel compelled to help the children in my area. Our government encourages dependence, especially under this administration, the children are victims!

So Pelosi designates $30,000,000.00 for mouse habitat in San Francisco while little boys and girls are going hungry, she feels your pain.

I distinctly remember Obama telling America that the stimulus had worked. I distinctly remember the Obama administration stating that ten percent unemployment rate and higher is here to stay for at least four more years.

Ohioans using food pantries need not worry.'Turn around Ohio Ted' is in the middle of a 'miracle' in remaking Ohio. So, as Ohioans stand in food pantry lines with rumblings of hunger erupting in their stomachs, maybe they will have the strength to go to the polls in November and vote in a governor who has more than a degree in psychology.

Joey, TANF specifies that individuals can only get public assistance for up to five years over their lifetime, and that states have the right to set lower limits if they choose to. Ohio has done just that, and set the limit at two years. So your fifteen-year-old who is milking taxpayers for every dime they can get is fictional, pure and simple. Please, get your facts straight before you go off-topic.

Jesus wouldn't talk politics while people go hungry, children go hungry, for whatever reason they go hungry. Shut up and feed the people.

Gary, did you read the article? The little boy was in line with his cousin, who watches him while his mother works. And the cousin is watching the little boy because he can't find work right now. Yes, kids are neglected, but clearly this little boy is being cared for.

Maybe we could euthanize the sperm donor and recipient (his 'parents') and raise the poor kid not to be a burden on society? You know, teach him to go to school and actually LEARN and GRADUATE and GET A JOB where he has to THINK.

Wow! What a concept! Actually goes against all good ghetto thinking. Just walk around with a sad, hungry look with your hand out. At night, sell drugs. Wommins; just be having babies.

the religious ALWAYS talk politics to FORCE people to do what they want to be done, so if someone on here thinks they KNOW what Jesus would say about hunger in Columbus isn't political and a fantasy, lump it!

First, Jesus didn't feed everybody, you dork!

Second, Jesus sent people away.

Third, Jesus had people take responsibilty for their actions.

Now, I don't give hundreds of dollars a month to food banks like I'm sure YOU DO, so you can now tell me how heartless I am.....unless you are just advocating the government take more of my money to feed those who have chosen to do nothing.

Shannon it is actually less than that it is 36 months out of a life time that a person can recieve TANF. Although food stamps are for as long as you qualify for them, as a person with a 6 person family i could recieve Food stamps up until we make 6 figures a year. Which I find ludicris! People need to start helping themselves, not just riding the system. People sitting in their Section 8 housing, recieving food stamps have NO NEED to work. Just sell off a few food stamps for you gas and ciggs, and your good! There needs to be limits placed on everything!

I think everyone should volunteer at a pantry at least once just to see what people go through. It's sad yet enlightening.

Let's all do our part in helping to eradicate hunger, first in Central Ohio, then worldwide! There are so many ways, so many programs that serve the disadvantaged. And it doesn't cost an arm or a leg...or a *brain*!

Help feed the hungry and have a ghoulishly good time at the 4th Annual Zombie Walk Columbus! Saturday, May 29th, 2010 (Memorial Day weekend) at 5:00 PM. The Walk launches from Goodale Park in the Short North. Dress as a zombie! Pour your gore and shamble along North High street with us. Don't forget to bring your donations of non-perishable food items for the Mid-Ohio Food Bank!(donations collected at the park before, during, after the Walk!)

It's free! It's fun! It helps our community!

RAISING THE DEAD TO FEED THE LIVING! You know you'll just *die* if you miss it!
