a drop in the bucket compared to what the Fed is giving the (mostly) rich to buy back their failed securities. I always thought if you made a bet and lost, you lost...

...and I always thought if you threw away the free education promised to all Americans so you weren't educated and qualified for decent employment, you lost.

Apparently not, you just sign up for Welfare and make the taxpayers responsible for your bad decisions...and gripe about it when the free life is cut back by just a few dollars a month.

America is broke. When the host dies, the parasites usually fall off.

The mortgage-backed securities buyback debacle is costing more per month than welfare and food stamps COMBINED, and that money is being given to (mostly) RICH people. Those people bought those securities thinking they were going to be making money. Basically gambling... When they started failing, those people should have just had to eat the losses, just like millions did when GM went bankrupt, and we'd be saving 40 billion (at least) a month! So yes, there are some people abusing safety net programs, but if your complaint is the amount of money that's being wasted, you're ignoring the 800 pound gorilla in the room, and it begs the question as to whether you're doing so through ignorance or complicity.
