You mean there's a group of Americans who will refrain from using something to make way for those less fortunate? Unbelievable! And these people are hungry themselves! Doubly unbelievable!

so basically, the first generation raised with everything provided (although barely) by the government, now needs government help just to eat? And why should this surprise anyone? They were incompetent their entire lives to take care of themselves, why should they be capable now?

Oh, and the bit about them raising their grandchildren? I'd bet it's at least 80% that they were such crappy parents raising their own kids. Now, they can teach a WHOLE NEW generation how to be dumb and let the "gubamint" give you money!

Your opinions -- straight from the Rush Limbaugh/Faux News cache of Baseless Hate-Crapola -- are despicable and utterly beneath contempt. Your Mom and your Grandma must be so very proud of you, jerk.

Geubux, Shame on you! What a horrible thing to say. From the tone of your note, I would say you would be the first in line if YOU were in trouble. Compassion is what is needed here. Love and compassion - that is what makes everything work.

Sorry "Ken E & Tiny", your posts were not here when I wrote mine so I do NOT include you in my statement. I'm just astonished at how hate-filled people can be.

How about saving money during your working years? Social Security and food stamps destroy the motivation to save. Nothing is wrong with America that little dose of "work ethic" wouldn't fix right up. Time to reduce taxes and restore freedom to America! Romney 2014!!

"Number of hungry senior citizens is growing"

The Republicans will solve this problem by passing legislation to require a photo idea to get food........

You have a point, but I would like to point out that the number of elderly living in poverty is growing. Many of those people people did save money but risk outliving their money. Thanks to advances in science/health, people are living longer.
Watching my 87 year old grandmother use most of her monthly income to cover medicine has been a real lesson for me and my saving planning. Thankfully her family loves her and make sure she has plenty of food and that she can afford her utilities.

My work just did a collection for Operation Feed benefitting the Mid Ohio Food Bank and I contributed 154 cans/boxes of healthy foods. If everyone would do a small part, this problem would not exist.

Feed the hungry.
Clothe the naked.
Provide shelter to the homeless.
Care for the sick.

Actually pretty simple rules to follow in each of our lives if you believe in treating others the way we want to be treated yourself. It is not just a government issue. When you look in the mirror each morning, what kind of person do you see? What are YOU doing to help those in need each day? It is not just the other the responsibility of the other guy. It is the responsibility of us all.

So do something today and every day to help those in need. I try, why not you?

"It's an entitlement program, so there's no limit on the number of eligible people who can receive it."

No limit, huh. Gosh, I'm scared for my grandchildren that I don't even have it.

Real Welfare Queens

Some of you are mistaken in your analysis of who the drain on society really is. The true welfare queens are the rich CEOs and those on Wall Street who begged for a bailout and who receive that nice Bush tax cut. Their plan is to outsource America by exploiting foreign workers and reaping every single penny they can. The billions that the financial industry has stolen is in no comparison to the few hundred dollars/month that grandma would receive.

These entitlement programs are there to help people and to see that nobody goes without a meal. It is sickening to read some of the comments. The conservatives argue that "ObamaCare" will create death panels for Grandma, but let's be honest, the real death panels are the reduction in social programs like food stamps by the Republican Party.
