Perhaps if they weren't allowed to use their food stamps on snacks and junk food, they wouldn't be undernourished and hungry.

Well, I do agree with you, but the realist in me also knows that if we can get some of these other countries to stand on their own, maybe more of their citizens would stay home and not become illegal immigrants in our country. So in a way, helping those other countries may someday (I hope and pray) help us, too. Ahh, if only this was a perfect world, humans were infallable and politicians were extinct ...
we have helped other countries only to have them turn on us and use our artillary against us. bin laden, ghadaffi, iraq, iran. i could go on.

There's nothing looney about preparing for emergencies, which can take the form of anything from sudden unemployment to floods or other natural disasters that disrupt the food distribution system. Food is still relatively cheap so most people with jobs can buy three months worth of food, especially in bulk. If I get fired tomorrow, I know I'll have something to eat until I have to go on food stamps without burdening the local food bank. I'm my own food bank.

Instead of dismissing concerns about food shortages out of hand, Google the term "ug99".
You won't like what you read if you eat bread every day.

God you people just spit venom just to hear yourselves dont you? Let me fill the holes in your story there chief. Single men can not get foodstamps. Educate yourself on the program.
Gosh, Lynne, I didn't think my message was venomous. I think, if you'll check, that food stamp for single men is a new thing. Unless my neighbor (the lazy wannabe thug) was fibbing recently. He was actually proud of the fact that he was 'getting over' on the system. I had to ask for food stamps once, long long ago, and actually, by the time I had bought my grocery staples, I was able to eat better for that two month period than I usually could at that time. I could not, however, in good conscience, continue to be on the 'dole.' My question is just that, with the food stamp program, and the generous amounts they have for families, why oh why do we keep hearing hunger, hunger, hunger? I don't hate the poor. I WAS the working poor almost all my life. I saved my money best as I could, worked my tail off at whatever job I could get, and now it has paid off. It's an honest question... where is the food going?

Of course, now we see that ALL the people who were 'getting over' on the system are the ones who BROKE the system, and kids will suffer.

Also, if you're poor, broke, and stupid, should you even be having kids? I guess sex is cheaper entertainment than cable tv.

While a single mother of 3 I was going to nursing school. There were times when I had to go to the food bank just to make sure we had enough to get us through. Now that I have graduated from nursing school, and have a great job at a local hospital, i give back every chance I can.

Not everyone going to the food banks are stupid, trashy folks who would rather spend their money on "smokes and DVDS". I will agree with you that a good chunk of them are though. When ever I would see a family of people who were all wearing BRAND new Nikes and Baby Phat clothes that cost more than the car I drove, it made me somewhat sick.

But Don't judge everyone as that trash, please. Some people really just need the help, while they help themselves.

Yes, you are ALMOST an exception to the rule. First, I am sorry you contracted MS. That being said, why weren't you putting at least 10% of your pay away? Or were you spending every bit? Second, if you are disabled and WERE working, you would or shoud qualify for SSI disability. Third, if you have so much free time (no job) you should spend about 40 hours a week applying for government aid. Between city, county, state, and federal, there are probably at least 50 programs that you are eligible for of some kind.
Most people make bad choices. Like I stated before about the poor; but also the working poor. Working poor is not necessarily money, it's about debt: did you need a brand new car or would a three year old model have worked? Credit cards? Vacation you couldn't afford? Was it smart to keep MOVING UP in housing? Eating out weekly? Do you "deserve" the daily $3 cup of coffee?
Most people make bad choices, whether they work or are the poor waiting for handouts
But the most glaring bad choice is the hyphenated last name: either take your husbands or keep yours, for crying out loud!
Believe it or not, I did better (by your own standards)than your stated stopgap solutions. I'm not going to go into my long history. All I really wanted to express is that there is true need out there as well as the freeloaders. Just recognise that.

No disagreement from me. These practices have been going on almost since the founding of our country. In fact, our country was founded with the help of this kind of philosphy: France and Spain agreed to help the Revolutionary U.S. because both countries hated the British and wanted to see Americans free from British rule in hopes we would be able to help them in return in their battles with the Brits. What it got France was a democratic revolution of its own with King Louie tossed out and separated from his head. The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend.

And some countries today will never get off U.S. taxpayers' dole. Israel is the prime example. Christians and Jews in this country will never allow it. Politicians of both parties are beholden to Christian and Jewish voters who want Israel propped up against Muslims to protect the Holy Lands from infedels. This has gone on for over 60 years. At the same time, we have caught Israeli Masaad agents spying on us. We never learn ...

I DID recognize that. YOU need to recognize that you're bossy and demanding. I'll bet you're single or that you hyphenate your last name too!

BTW, the ONLY thing I have to really recognize is that a heck of a lot of lazy people are living out of my wallet.

Interesting, I see nothing bossy or demanding in any of my comments, just a plea to you not to be so narrowminded. I can look past your rude comments since I understand your frustration. I just hope you take a little more time in the future before forming your opinions. If the problem was easy to fix, it would be been done long ago.

If most of the people were not so lazy they could be picking food out of the dumpsters behind the chinese buffet's like so many other Obama support people, that ran out of stimulus money.

Miss, I am concerned with the people with brand new clothes and cars that are trash. If criticism does not apply to you, ignore it.
