Tragedy, both for the fire and the fact that no smoke detectors were present, to potentially avert this loss of life.

My sympathies to the family. As much as I find smoke detectors a pain (they go off for no reason sometimes) they do serve a purpose. I have 6 of them in my house all connected to my alarm system. IF they go off, the fire department is called.
