It is interesting how this commission comes to the conclusion that politicians need more time in power, but the People do not need to vote on how much these politicians spend of the People's money. These so-called good-intentioned individuals who "worked so hard and long" on these revisions are apparently, on the face of it, dishonest, corrupt, and motivated soley by self-interest.

The power of Government in thsi Nation belongs to the People. Not the elected politicians who are supposed to be entrusted to represent us. To make the claim, as made in this article by an apparatchik, that a budget referendum would create problems for future budgeting is laughable if not so serious a matter.

This statement's underlying meaning is serious. The inference is that The People do not have the ability to decide for themselves on how THEIR money is to be spent. That politicians and bureaucrats know better. This un-American mindset is evident everywhere; from washington to Hartford, and now Hamden.

Of course this leaves room for politicians and bureacrats to buy power with the People's money. Special interest groups, targeted voting blocs, and crony capitalists, to name but a few, all benefit. It is much easier to hide a few dollars here and there amongst millions especially when the only individuals controlling the process are the same ones who approve how the money is spent.

The argument is that these elected officials are representing their constituents. Well, judging by the enormous amount of taxes that the People of Hamden pay, how has that been working out....hmm???
Feeling good about your so honest local elected official are we???
