Hilbert College Student Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver

HAMBURG, N.Y. (AP) ― Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed a 19-year-old college student walking home early Saturday in western New York. According to investigators, the sport utility vehicle struck Meghan Sorbera, throwing her about 30 feet, and she suffered fatal head injuries about 1:35 a.m. She was walking with friends to their house near the Hilbert College campus in Hamburg, south of Buffalo, after working at a haunted house at the Erie County fairgrounds.

Sadly, I am afraid that you took pleasure in that tragic event. It wouldn't surprise me if you were the one who hit this poor girl, Meghan Sorbera, and then ran like a coward.

I do know this girl. She was a quiet, beautiful girl with a loving family who thought the world of her and a little brother who worshipped her. As far as I'm concerned the media should never allow comments to be posted on something like this tragedy. Furthermore the person with the first comment is a total "A __." I know our community will be out in full force around this family praying and supporting and comforting them as best we can. So you look in the comments to see what people have to say about the person you loved. Most people have sent their sympathies and sorrows for the family and friends of the victim. How do you feel now knowing that there are sick people in the world who can make a joke about such a tragedy? I don't know if you have any feelings "Just Wondering" but a normal person would feel anger and hatred towards a person who could leave such a comment. You really need to think about your actions and realize that your comment could be read by Meghan's family and friends. This comment is the last thing her parents need to read. A decent human being would apologize for displaying such a disgraceful comment and realize that this is not a joking matter.

News 4's Lorey Schultz has learned that The Town of Hamburg Police have arrested attorney John Duffy in the fatal hit and run accident last weekend.

Duffy is in custody and is being arraigned for a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

Police say Meghan Sorbera died early Saturday morning after she was struck while walking along South Park Avenue.
