I've long been a big proponent of that idea!
Imagine how much better everyone would get around.
How much gas would be saved.
How many lives would be saved.
How much more productive our economy would be.
How much time each person would get back.
How much less road rage there would be.
How much less maintenance our cars would need (brakes especially).
It is doable, but will probably never get any support because of the expense in the short term and the fact that businesses will be affected that benefit from cars being forced to stop, such as gas stations. Law suits would be endless.
