Everyone is right in that they cater to the people who want a new car so badly that they ignore all of the warnings. Chaney counts on that and has his plan into effect-how fast the car will resell and what he can pocket on a newer deal. If everyone who has their car repoed finds out about the law saying they are entitled to get back their money, Chaney might have to reorganize his business. He may have to play by the law and make a living instead of a killing. It really is a shame that he casued so much heartache for others but to him, his customers are all trash who deserve what they get. He does not have any remorese for being obnoxious and cruel to anyone who stands in his way. I really hope all the people who have been victimized by these crooks demands and gets their money back. What a number of you victims do not realize is you can really expose these crrooked guys. When your car is repoed, they sell it immediately-GUESS WHAT? They did not and do not change the title into their name until AFTER they sell it and collect YOUR money. SCAM?? Yeah, on both parties. Whenever I went to make a payment, there was a large group of people who had their cars repoed sitting and standing outside. Most were hispanics and some were young blacks. Now where I see the proplem is these people look for easy targets-hispanics, poorer others and seize their plight by showing them a way to get a cool car. Just get a down payment-beg, borrow or steal it and they take it for a down payment. Then they give you the car but you are required to pay 200.00 every 2 weeks. OK, now here is the problem-their inept staff conveniently loses your paymnet or they apply it to the wrong account, or they change the due date because they take a black highlighter each time you make a payment and black it out (oh it gets better) then they repoe it for brother Royce's repo company to make a buck and they have your car. Ok, you were not behind and you have paid great so far and they have you car. They know you will not get an attorney. They know the Police say it is civil and will not do anything but you made your payments and they still have your car. What can you do? You are there and Joel Chaney demands another 2000.00 from you and a very large repo fee for his bro. So you either beg, borrow, or steal the additional 2000.00 plus the repo fee or you lose your car. But you were always on time? They know you are not able to prove it and they get away with it. I have heard this same story almost every time I came in-which is every 2 weeks. I too get a receipt they ALWAYS black out and so far I have not got my car repoed yet but I am sure I will. They are in the business to scam and technically steal your car. This is the biggest consumer ripoff I have ever heard of and I want to see them prosecuted by the State. Listein guy I feel for you but do something about it. The law says if they sell your car for more than you owe for it, they have to pay you. They will tell you that isn't so but file a complaint with Department of Consumer Affairs and Florida Attorney General. You deserve you 3000.00 back and if he swindled someone else by getting more than what he got you for-you get the difference-NOT HIM. How odd that 13 of the 13 posted comments did not even live in Highlands County? I have purchased 7 automobiles from Chaney's in the past 15 years and never had a problem. The sticker on all autos state "AS IS" and when you sign that Contract, you and the dealer are bound. What part of "AS IS" do these morons not understand? If Chaneys were "crooks" as you all profess, they would not be in business for 30+ years. Jeff Chaney who started this business could not even read or write however he and his sons have made a very lucrative, honest business that continues to thrive.

If you agree and sign a contract saying you will do something by law you are obligated to meet the requirements of the agreement. If it is broken there are repercussions just as if it was any other finance company. We must repossess vehicles if the payments are not made in a timely fashion. We give many different warnings and notices of delinquent payments. We call the customer, if we have current phone numbers, we mail letters, and try to adjust payments to fit the customers needs. We even try to work with the customer to see if they would like to get into another vehicle with lower payments. We try to make every customer happy but sometimes we just can't find the common ground. People say many things about us and majority of those people are ones that we have repossessed a vehicle from and they only say these things because they broke their promises and contract. We do not repossess vehicles that are not behind.

We have been in business for 30 plus years and we have not stayed in business that long by being dishonest. We do absolutely no advertisements at all. All of our business is by referrals and our reputation through out the community. We have many families that have bought vehicles from us many years ago and are still buying for their kids and grandkids. You are such a child to put something like this.. didnt you know that it was becuase a customer of theirs was in some trouble. They bought a vehicle from Chaney's and then the customer was dealing in illegal activity in the vehicle. The federal people were only there to collect his records..DUH!
