Skagway's railway built of gold

There are 4 comments on the Examiner.com story from Jun 7, 2011, titled Skagway's railway built of gold. In it, Examiner.com reports that:

Skagway, Alaska is known as the gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898. But did you know there was never any gold found in Skagway itself? How did this little town become so famous? It was the furthest point a ship could sail up the Inside Passage to reach the Klondike gold fields-over the Canadian border, 600 miles beyond the port.
