Re: Guns, concealed weapons, in Hawai'i: Do you moronic idiots realize you're living in Hawai'i?
You want to import LA gang mentality to the "Aloha State"? Go ahead, full steam. Carry a Beretta to school, church, bars and restaurants.
If you "believe" your life is threatened, don't walk away, shoot the person.
Only later will you find out who they were.
And court costs will make all the lawyers laugh.

Good idea, but my days of carrying a gun are long past, and I'd probrably be more dangerous to myself than anyone else. I keep pepper spray handy, and if I'm forced to use it, woe be it to the guy because that is just the beginning of his life of pain. His joints will never bend again.

The pro gun advocates are not mentioning here that they are lobbying far, wide, and hard for the right to possess fully automatic assault rifles and .50 caliber sniper rifles.
No wonder NRA members and the NRA-ILA have such an easy time defending the second amendment by defeating such ill informed, hyper-emotional retards like you.

First there is NO SUCH THING as an "assault rifle". That is a cosmetic designation applied to SEMI AUTHOMATIC rifles that have an APPEARACNE that frightens chumps like you.

Second, unless one has a BATFE license it is ILLEGAL to own a fully automatic weapon.

I'd suggest you try to get your facts straight but for one thing: you wouldn't know a fact if one bit you in the [redacted].

I did not say I would bar you from owning a gun. I said you might want to consider what could happen if the criminal wrestled the gun away from you and used it on you or your family. Do you have children? Sometimes kids play with guns and have tragic accidents.
The study was in the newspapers about 15 years ago, probably The Advertiser as I wasn't reading the Star-Bulletin back then. A recent quote I just found about a similar subject was from a University of Pennsylvania study which stated that people who had guns in their homes ended up with twice the chance of getting shot/killed of those who did not have guns in their homes.
You are taking a risk is what I was saying; you may want to judge if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
And by the way, you didn't answer my question: Have you ever confronted a criminal on behalf of a stranger?
I did not say you were trying to take my right away, I was just reminding you we have one...some seem to forget that at times.

I have three children, two of whom have been sat down and talked to about guns and gun safety. To include, safe handling (ie when it is appropriate to use a gun and when it is not), NEVER think of as toys...guns are lethal and if "played" with have drastic permanent consequences, and things of those nature. I think a lot of people out there (maybe including you) think us gun advocates are neanderthals that just fire off at will...I beg to differ as ALL of my close friends are gun enthusiasts (for Liberals out there...they like to collect antiques/modern etc)and or hunters.

As for risks, the criminal, YES CRIMINAL who so chooses to enter my home against my will and intend harm IS taking the risk. Trust me, I would never hestitate to use my gun when my life is threatened or there is an obvious perceived threat (ie breaking into my home). I was waiting for them if they came into my closet with my gun aimed and cocked. There are many classes out there that train people in safe handling if they didn't have someone when they were growing up to teach them. There are firing ranges that you can be qualified at. I tell you what, I sleep safely at night when my husband isn't home knowing that i have a means to protect myself if need be. Your suggestion to think about the risk comes across a little condescending (although I do not for sure if you meant it that way). It leads me back to the point I made about how others veiw pro-gun ownership. We are not an uneducated lot and probably know more about guns than the ones who are against them. You throq out stats, but still no article. Whenever you read anything with stats, ALWAYS consider the source AND look carefully at the stats. There are too many variables to consider for anyone to just go by your claims as of yet. Plus, there may be other studies to compare with...again, educate yourself.

Is thom a baby boomer? My mom is 36 and missed that generation.
No way.

I was four years old when Pearl Harbor was bombed.

I watched in awe and gratitude as brave men by the millions went off to war to save me and my family .... and I could not at the time understand why my parents and other adults kept calling them 'boys'. But of course that is exactly what they were. Many lied about their age for the privilege of defending America. Because of their heroic spirit and stunning accomplishments, THAT is the reason Tom Brokow coined the term The Greatest Generation.

Fortunately we have a new 'greatest' generation that has emerged to sandwich in the mis-begotten Cry Baby Boom cowards and derelicts. This is a young generation of ADULTS who have arisen like a Phoenix out of the ashes of 9/11 to defend us.

Young people YOUR AGE Alice are now making history. Perhaps at some point you will wish to join these noble members of your generation and forge a new, glorious chapter in American history.

To do that you have some heavy lifting ahead of you in casting out the poison which unfit "professors" like Noel Jacob Kent have injected into you by way of propaganda. Kent is the perfect prototype Cry Baby Boomer -- an aging, bitter misfit who ignored the opportunities to grow up and make something of himself when he had the chance ... and is increasingly dismayed to discover his time has run out.

YOUR time however has NOT run out.

Resolve to resist being propagandized. Make your own observations. Draw your own conclusions. And above all talk with those heroic men and women of YOUR generation who have risen in your defense.

You CAN throw off the yoke of propaganda if you are willing to find out the truth for yourself, swim upstream and make your OWN decisions.

COURAGE!

I think they tried that with ATM's somewhere. What do you think criminals started taking before going to the ATM?

That's fine, and I hope you never need to use the spray. My position is not that everyone has to have a gun, merely that those that want to carry, can do so.
