I see not much has changed in Hawaii. I was mobbed by 20+ Somoans in highschool because I'm Haole. What did the cops do? NOTHING. Imagine if that happeded on the mainland and the skin colors were reversed.

Racism alive and well in the Aloha State.

from Lila Fujimoto story (Maui News)

"--- Becraft said he moved backward and went into his house to wake his wife and tell her to call 911 before going back outside because a boy was on the porch."

no excuses for the violent thugs, but you got you wonder if this was good police work

the cop was scrappin with teenage delinquents and hit a girl in the face

then he came back outside for more instead of waiting for back-up --- I guess a man has to protect his home

the youth responded: "(Expletive) you, you (expletive) haole."
This is a great story to help the tourism decline.

This family needs to feel the full letter of the Law. The whole family needed bats to take down one man. If they knew he was a cop, what was they thinking. The fruit don't fall far from the tree. Selah~

..hmm, nothing here about Becraft identifying himself as a police officer before verbally confronting the teens about their mailboxes rampage//
..i'm sure that if he did, reactions and results would've been different; not that i'm justifying this family's violent tendencies, just basing it on human instincts//
..if i was zooming through H1 at 90mph and a VW Beetle (with flashing light) came right behind me - i would slow down to 55, but not stop on the side of the road because i know that's not a cop's car; thus, not a cop driving it//
..however, a blue and white (with flashing light), and i'm off the road and parked on the side in a jippy//
..during road construction, we go through red light if there's a cop directing traffic who's waving us to drive on; we wouldn't do the same if it had been a guy on civilian clothes//
..if only officer Becraft took out his badge, flashed it in full view and identified himself to the teens..then inquired about the property damages being administered by same, i think they would've stop, instantly hover themselves with halo over their head, and no outcome of violence would've ensued//
..then again, this family's a true menace to society, maybe it wouldn't have mattered; ah, well, gas 'em all//

Typical lowlife parents defending the criminal actions of their (surprise) lowlife offspring.

I couldn't help but question the judgement of an off-duty cop fist fighting with his neighbor's teenage children.

Granted, two wrongs don't make a right, and the kids fathers are clearly scum bags, but are their others who agree with me that the cop could have handled this better?

Typical useless mokes. They only win a fight when it is 8 on one. Individually, they are cowards. This is clearly a hate crime and federal and state laws against hate crimes should be used here.

You may flag me again but I stand by my previous comment that these are typical lowlife parents defending their (surprise) lowlife criminal offspring.

Typical mentality of many and this goes back a long time!!! Hawaii has never had a program that would educate its own people as to how to respect the color and nationality of others!!! Rather than prosecute these thugs in State court, I believe that if there is any way possible, they should be brough up on federal charges and prosecuted in federal court since the trend in state court seems to be very lax at times.

Now, we all see why the kids reacted that way, look at the dad. Poor parenting skills. Like father like kids. auwe!! Bad on you dad. You all will get what you deserve... you make the rest of the good people in Hawaii look bad.

A bunch of class-less animals. I hope the judge throws the book at this family including the kids for a long time. These types of people will never learn and by the looks of it, they seem content that they beat this officer. If the officer shot these animals for self protection, this story would have defended the animals. I bet this guys are unemployed and on welfare.

I wouldn't be surprised if they decide this falls under the hate crime law.
It wasn't a hate crime when that military guy and his wife were beaten up at Waikele, but it will be because this guy is a cop.

They should all be held accountable for their actions. They made their choices and now hey have to live with the consequences.
