How many of us are the same in our mid-fifties as we were in our mid twenties, regardless of the paths that we've followed during those years? I'm not. There is probably no danger in letting this man go. But if people are not ready to do that, there is no harm in keeping him where he is either. It's a choice, nothing more, nothing less.

Officer Kline, lost his life in a very unfortunate situation, he was setup! Was it because he found out that his fellow officers were possibly money laundering and drug dealing with the shop owner? How did the shop owner manage to have the same caliber gun as was used to shoot Officer Kline? Why was it not entered that Officer Kline was shot in the back while facing Unger? Why were no fingerprints from Unger were on the murder weapon and whoa suddenly the convience store owners gun disappears? Why were tracking dogs following a lead to the trunk of a police car and not a poor old ladies basement door? How was Unger after being shot in the chest able to unlock approximately 9 locks on a basement door to enter? Too Many unanswered questions for sure. I don't know all the answers, but I have talked with his public defender, before his untimely death, and he had quite a few questions also. But I pray that justice will prevail in this case and those guilty will be brought forth for the public to answer to their crimes.

He took the life of an off-duty police officer and I feel that Mr. Unger should spend the rest of his life in prison.
It is doubtful that the Maryland prison system has reformed him to the level of him becoming a model citizen on the outside.
Thanks
Well, OJ Simpson got off cause he had a fancy lawyer. Guess Merle couldnt afford one so he has to go to jail. How fair is that?

its been how long and where was the evidence 30+ years ago that put him behind those bars. if the trial had gone on yesterday, or 15 years from now this would have never happened

Exactly! There were all these unanswered questions and more which were never completely and satisfactorily answered at the time. I never considered Unger to be a killer but his actions set in motion the chain of events that led to Officer Klines death; and for this he is responsible. So many of his other escapades could have ended the same way with countless other innocent victims. He is now paying for his actions and decisions and because of his long and current history of criminal behavior, I don't believe the argument holds water that he just made immature decisions because he was young. This being said; "Run Merle, Run"

Hi Sabrina,
I just wanted you to know that I have met your father. I lived in Chambersburg, PA where I met his younger brother, Nick. I took Nick to see your father in Baltimore. I, for one, do believe your father when he said he took the rap for killing this cop although he was not the one that shot him. Where are the 2 other accomplices and why aren't they in prison also? I hope you will reply to this as I am very curious. I saw where he is getting a new trial and will keep searching online for updated news.
Please tell Nick I said Hello!!!

I would like to ask who out there in the real world still thinks like they did 36 years ago, As for the prison system reforming anyone forget it, It is not about Reform its about punishment. Do you know if you were robbed and the robber is running away from you and you kill him you can go to jail for manslaughter, sounds like he was running away and not trying to kill the off duty police officer, was he in uniform ?
think about it 36 years is a long time.
<quoted text>
To me it doesn't matter if it was a cop in or out of uniform or a every day guy like you or me he put the gun to the mans chest at point blank range an fired 3 rounds in to him and that was he was a police officer doing his job protecting us makes it a millon times worse if you think it's easy being a cop i know where you can get the paper work . did he have a wife,kids ?

Do you even know Sabrina? Why would you judge someone you don't even know. I have to say that I have only seen Sabrina once and I know her brother, Merle, and I happen to be dating him. So you know what, deciding to tell someone to go f##k themselves is just demeaning and rude, especially if you don't know them, but in a right mindset I could tell you the same thing, but I feel like I'm disrespecting myself saying that to someone I don't know.

I am a retired cop and I find your sentence writing skills to be sorely lacking. I can almost imagine trying to decipher your reports, if indeed you ever composed any.

Please consider a career as a rent-a-cop. Unarmed of course!

As far as the worthless cop killer is concerned he should have his sentence reduced to 30 days. These to be served in the electric chair though.
