While I think we should expand public transit, the facts are that it is NEVER, EVER going to meet the demand to get from here to there in this country. Our country is just TOO BIG for a British-style transit system to work, unless we make everyone move to either the far east or far west coast.

Unfortunately, there are those of us Marylanders with work hours that don't give us a choice but to spend $350-$400 or more monthly driving into DC or VA. It's getting out of hand. I used to take public transit (Metro) from Greenbelt every morning and pay $200 or less to get to work. Now I pay double the amount, and the prices, it seems so far, are only going to get more unbearable. It's getting so that I have to cut other things out of my life just to occupy at seat at 5 a.m. All of this outstanding technology that allows us to connect from home, and, just as efficiently, telecommute, but many companies would rather has us burn gas, clog the roads and pollute the environment. It just doesn't make sense, esp. w/these gas hikes.
Well, the main reason that they don't want to allow people to telecommute is that they think if you are doing your work at home and get it done faster than you do at your old workplace, you must have been slacking off at work.
That is the main argument I have heard for companies not wanting to allow people to telecommute.
Someday, I think we are going to do everything from home: our children are going to learn from home with a teacher paid by the state broadcasting a podcast and them listening to that podcast from home and doing online schoolwork; doing our regular day-to-day work as adults from home (everyone except doctors, low-wage workers, etc. can usually do that today), etc.

The crime that has taken place on MTA mainly happens at night. Not in broad day light. I ride MTA buses on Saturdays many times in broad day light and there is hardly any trouble on board. There are times buses get too crowded and times they dont get too crowded. If I were still living in Baltimore I would park my car and catch the bus but since I live out in York County PA I have no choice but to drive to work at these expensive gas prices.

I would happily ride the Light Rail to work, however, I do not feel safe at all. No one ever checks tickets and so anyone can get on there and ride. Make public transportation safe from all the thugs coming out of Baltimore, and more people will ride it.
Why do you thing its called the Rob and Ride?

They should have kept the trolley.

A trolley car every five to ten minutes.

Dedicated lines.

Ultra high efficiency.

Park Circle, Gwynn Oak Park,
Heck, it was even a trolley that
went to North Point State Park.

The car manufactures conspired
with the municipal government to
make the roads more car friendly.

It was a good ride while it lasted.

the Baltimore Trolley Car system
in his documentary "Gone But Not
Forgotten"
