Development at U.S. 40 and I-70 to be discussed at meeting Tuesday

Developers who want to build an upscale shopping center near the intersection of U.S. 40 and Interstate 70 are to speak during a public hearing Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hagerstown City Hall. via Herald-Mail

I think we have enough retail in Hagerstown. I no longer have to drive to another town for descent shopping like I did when I was younger. Upscale or not, it will mainly attract those who don't even live in Hagerstown and contribute to the already bad driving that I witness every day in the area from "visitors" or those who are used to driving the I-270 madness. I have lived in Hagerstown all of my life and would rather not see it become another Frederick (even though I work there). If we are talking jobs, why not attract businesses that have jobs that actually pay something and have more than a few higher paying positions. Give people some incentive to actually LIVE here longterm instead of treating it like a commuter town. I am an IT professional and have to commute to at least Frederick just to work in my field.

It would be great to have a "upscale" type shopping center on that end of town. Sounds good to me and I would plan to shop there.
