The Habitat Authority was formed around 1992 as mitigation for the Puente Hills dump.
The dump closes next year.
The enacting documents did not include La Habra Heights, and it will be interesting to see if the county wants to reopen a 20 year olds item.

La Habra Heights swings between developer types and preservation people.

Right now, the Council is developer controlled, and it would be difficult to find a benefit to the Habitat Authority to include representation from those who feels they "lost a third of the city to open space", would rather see it developed, and find it now to be a fire danger to the city instead of a valuable amenity.

There is little overlapping interest between the Habitat Authority and the controlling group on the Council.

Seems like you are very informed. VIP knows very little just always jumps on a bandwagon. He should let his large amounts of animals out of their cages.

Maybe if La Habra Heights had a say on the Habitat Authority some better precautions could be made as far as fire safety. Things like allowing bulldozers to do their job to stop a wildfire and not worrying about enviromental damage until after the fire is out. Maintaining the access for the fire department by keeping the roads clear to allow fire engines to pass through. Clearing the brush along Colima Rd. to prevent fires from starting in the first place. Maintaining fire breaks behind the homes that back up to the brush areas.

It's important to remember that the vast majority of fires in brush and open space are started by people.

The fire breaks and brush clearance are actually to protect the open space from people, not protect people from open space.

If you think about it from the perspective of how fires start and spread, a more realistic brush clearance and fire prevention program can occur.

Many people have a reflexive opinion that the open space is a fire danger, instead of the roads and residential being the actual fire danger.

Not a "tree hugger" type, just want the debate to be on the real issue.

I think a quick call to the HA, will answer some questions. It appears to me that Council Member Vipperman justs wants his name out there. He wants everyone to know about him and to think he is Mr. Wonderful, Johnny on the Spot. I agree with the other comment. Council Member Vipperman should let his animals out of the small cages, including his pigs and dogs. Let them be free and happy to roam his 8 acres like all the native plants in the HA.
