The death of E'town as we know it just got voted on by this mass of fence riding magistrates that we had to increase to 8 and more than triple the cost of government to pacify a few. Now those few will have to drive out to ring road (isn't everything on ring road now?) to conduct business. What a shame? Must have been a deal UNDER THE FRICKIN' TABLE!!!!! Just glad that I won't be on earth long to witness all that will cave in with the downfall of the city.

I think its great they will be building new facilities outside the downtown district. Have you ever tried to conduct business there during the day? Parking is awful because all offices are in the same area. The pedestrians walking from building to building does nothing but slow traffic in the square. spreading the different offices out to different sites will help in a lot of ways. A lot of cities have different locations for courthouses, DMV's, County Clerks, etc. why can't Elizabethtown? Makes sense to me!!! And its about time the city cough up and spend some of the money they take in taxes on each of us, and put it back into the community where we can at least see where the money is being spent!

they are not building a new courthouse! They are building a place for county government offices.

Downtown is terrible for anything, and if you want nice businesses down there, get the daytime only government workers out... build it up with nice things, other than business offices with no parking.

County Attorneys Office and Child Support will move into the old court house. That will releasec2 rental payments. Nothing changes at the Justice Center. The Rr Thomas Building and PVA Office will be moving to Ring Road.

The current court house never should have been built in the "downtown" area. Dropping a state of the art building in such a dump was an incomprehensible decision. The only advantage to putting the courthouse on the south end of town I suppose was that it placed the supply close to the demand. In other words, most of the criminals reside on the south end of town.

Yes, lots of stuff will still be in the old court house and in the new court house too (I heard that one isn't even paid for yet). Right now you can walk around to everything but after the move you will have to drive half-way across town for various services.

Ring Road is a terrible location for any government functions except maybe the emergency vehicles that handle all the crashes around Ring Road and the mall. Who does this stupid stuff besides Shephardsville? We should be competing with Bowling Green or some place halfway decent, not that hole Shephardsville.

Ring Road may look good today but it won't when it becomes a congested mess. It will be like driving through the mall area but worse and that mall will only get worse too. Dumb move.

Etown has been living on the taxpayer tit for far to long. The current location is not the central location to the entire county populace. The move frees up properties that can and should be developed for commercial purposes. County government is not the death of Etown but rather a new beginning. That is if the city and the various organizations such as the Heritage, Tourism, and Chamber get off their collective asses and really plan for and cater to developers. Ask yourself this question, other than Washington DC (and Etown) where else have you seen government be the main "business" in a downtown commercial district in any city? The answer is not many. In most places the government operates silently in the background in an unobtrusive manner.

The county attorney's office is across from the Justice Center as the previous poster said. The child support division is out on Ring Rd. The mold and asbestos was removed from the old courthouse several years ago. At least I know that the asbestos was. The Justice Center was built where it was because the City gave them the land and I think paid for a chunk of it for them to build it downtown. Nothing will change there.

well, let me ask this. we had to go to 8 magistrates cause people felt like 3 didn't represent them? well, hells, bells, no one asked me my opinion. i disagree with the vote. you can't tell me that many people in my district was in favor of it. my old fence riding magistrate who has never had a brain of his own, and has severe crotch itch did NOT vote my thoughts on this.

Garnet, since you believe that there is no BRAC SCANDAL, and you read what "the move" will cost to relocate county government:

If County taxpayers "must pay 12 million for a building, then when BRAC SCANDAL exposure happens publically "and no-one ,or seemingly no-one has believed that a SCANDAL existed, and currently exists, that:

Harry Berry, and the entire fiscal court be reday to fork out the costs for all tap fees and installation costs for all Rineyville, and LaVista Estates "Victims" of a county government "Attempted" cover-up of a WasteWater Scandal involving various government entities, numerous Hardin County Politicians, and various banks in the region to suffer masses of home builder bankrupsy filings as this project is unraveled in Rineyville KY. beyond LaVista Estates, once victims begin to come forward forward?

Remember either the project does'nt happen or the county and state to pay the victims taps and installation costs for sewer into Rineyville--that is the only way this BRAC SCANDAL goes away!!

new york city, los angeles, chicago, louisville all have government buildings in their downtown area. "main buisness" grew up around them.
ask yourself this question, how is spending an enormous amount of money in a bad economy a "new beginning"? sounds like financial stupidity too me!

its funny too me how we accept a 12 million dollar debt as taxpayers for new government buildings ,but restrict the four c's program because of budget shortfalls. im not for either, but which is money well spent?
as we all make budget cuts in our own personal finances and try too make ends meet, our governments local, state and federal waste and buy things that are far from necessary!
