I'm a sophomore in high school that's wondering why our generation is so messed up. I'm also wondering why this generation is extremely behind other countries.

Short answer:'Cause every guy thinks they're a "rap" star and every girl thinks they're the next Kim Kardashian. Neither one are good in their original state, much less a copycat.

Basically boils down to the ones teaching us! Look at congress, lawsuits, etc. and how kids can't be disciplined anymore. And the education system surely isn't anything to brag about

Because PARENTS are not doing their job!! Not all but most. "It's not his/her fault they can't..." fill in the blank. Too many excuses and not enough butt busting and/or holding your kid accountable. Every kid is "talented" but with "problems." ADHA, ADD, emotional behavior disorder, ect. Not every kid is the next nfl, nba, singer, actress, actor, STAR!! I'm a parent and teacher, so I have grounds to talk! Ask some of your friends or fellow classmates what they want to be.

The decline of the American individual. Now there's a multi-volume topic. A brief and simplistic analysis of the subject leads me to the following conclusion. What are the key elements that made the individual American successful, and what happened to these elements? Here are a few off the top of my head. 1. A strong moral foundation. This foundation has been destroyed in an endless sea of moral relativism and depravity. 2. A strong family structure. I need not quote divorce rates or the statistics on the hoards of children born out of wedlock. 3. A strong sense of self-discipline. Parents, teachers, and other authority figures eschew discipline in favor of unmerited and meaningless emphasis on self-esteem rather than genuine performance. 4. A strong, challenging education system that brings out the best and separates the exceptional from the average. Our education system has been hopelessly eroded to the levels of the most incompetent under the guise of helping "everyone succeed." 5. A strong sense of patriotism and national pride. I've never witnessed such incredible levels of self-loathing, either first-hand or historically, as I witness from young Americans. 6. A strong work ethic...I can't keep going, it's too depressing.

I actually don't think the present generation of kids is that bad. Obviously there are differences between generations, things like the teen pregnancy rate for example, but in most aspects kids today will just be a little bit worse than teens a generation ago.

I do think the biggest difference for kids growing up today is with the social aspect of the internet. Most of the kids today seem to have a thousand friends on Facebook and obviously there's the nasty aspect of sites like Topix. This is a completely different situation than previous generations lived with. The most retarded and stupid kids will have their stupidity broadcast much more effectively now than they did in the past.

I think the reason the USA lags behind other countries in education is because the USA didn't have a pressing need to push education. The USA was the world's biggest superpower, life was pretty good, comparatively, so there wasn't the need to push kids hard in school. Even the worst educated people could make a fairly decent life for themselves. As Bart Simpson said to Homer, in most countries of the world someone as dumb as Homer would have starved to death, but in the good old US of A he managed to stumble along and get by okay.

The countries who have the best education systems will usually be the ones who were lagging well behind with their standard of living. Those countries decided that the best way for them to raise their standard of living was to really push their students to succeed and lift their country out of poverty. That, IMO, is one of the biggest reasons why American education lags behind others. Other countries needed to have excellent schools to help them compete, the USA didn't.

See. Child abuse topix and you will see part of the problem. Parents are bad if they discipline their children. Spanking oh no. Stating truth might hurt the wee ones feelings. I have told my children this is why you do not get to go shopping with me! Mainly because he kept doing things he was not supposed to do and knew it. Children have to be held accountable for their actions or else you get adults who think the world owes them. Now you are supposed to let a child win if playing a game, to boost self esteem, a false sense of accomplishment. Every member of a sports team gets a trophy. Would not want little john or Susie trying harder next time to win the game or award.

amen to that, its the parents fault, children in china and japan are made to go to school every day no breaks and they do like 10 hour days, and when their home they study. there is no partys sex drugs alcohol or social life. which is the way it should be until graduation!! that would straighten out alot of problems, but the majority of teh fault lies with the parents, there are no parents now days, just friends who live with their kids, kids run the house, no dislipline, no nothing, no self respect, no goals, just sit around waiting for someone to hand them something for doing nothing!! the parents and society has failed miserably.

It all boils down to discipline, too many kids run the household these days because society has brainwashed these parents into believing that spanking your kids is wrong. Somewhere in proverbs, I think 23 13 it says not to withhold correction, it hey won't die if you spank them. Even if you don't believe in the scriptures it's still good advice

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.(Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

And all they are saying anyway is the girl is a modern day maid. And If she marries into that family she will
No longer be a maid. And if she doesn't do a good enough job she can be released back.
