So a mayor and town council spent a million dollars because they were too pig headed to negotiate directly with the owner, that was looking to sale?

Another thing is this Bible belt nonsense. Maybe in the 1950s and before we were the Bible belt. Now we have as much depravity as any other area of the country. An obvious example would be if a strip club opened up in a small town and miraculously was able to stay open, which means it made a proffit. The mayor can feel smug about raising fees to fund a personal crusade against a legal establishment. What he wont admit is that obviously the towns folk approved of the business. Otherwise where did the customers come from?

sounds like something the city council of asheville would do .just let them make money and then tax them . i don't believe all the customers were truck drivers maybe the mayor was afraid he would get caught in their spending the towns money

"... It's just money." Let's see, 1.2 million divvied up from 2000 residents =$600 sin tax per person.

I never understood why Baptist's hate their jiggly bits. Why do nipples make the baby Jesus cry?

The town also has come up with a rezoning scheme that will likely ward off strip clubs by limiting them to two spots: A gritty industrial area near the railroad tracks, and behind a chicken hatchery on the outskirts of town.---------

In the movie,"The Best Little Whorre House in Texas",wasn't it dubbed the "CHICKEN RANCH"? LMAO

Mayor dim-wit and his fellow Klansmen should feel real proud. Couldn't seem to find the money for real Lavonia problems, but somehow managed to come up with 1/3 of our annual budget just to feel good about imposing fake-believe values. Living in Lavonia, I spent many hours at Cafe Risque and believe me, there were many, many fellow Lavonians, both men and women, who were regulars. I'm sure Jesus is real proud right about now, too.

LOL, what joke.

Lavonia has been the armpit of Georgia for decades. I was part of a federal raid which captured one of it's town's leading citizens as part of a major cocaine ring in the south. I fully recall the mayor of at that time denying that such an event could take place in Lavonia.(Actually, the deal took place in Anderson,SC, just across the border, but all the participants were from Lavonia.)

This was in 1992. It was a hick town then, and appears to have retained it's place as a backwater in America.

I love small-town America. Its citizens are for the most part honest and hard-working God-fearing Americans.

Will someone please explain what benefits strip clubs provide?

It seems that a male with an IQ over 70 would be able to get his kicks without being an audience to desperate women who are only really desiring his money.

Ick.

What luxury, what a noble use of the public purse!
Dedication to rigidity and rightiousness !
Nothing like men and women who have their priorities straight !

Wonder how good the schools are?
Wonder how many get good health care?
Wonder how many go to bed a little hungry?

Ah priorities!

And lots of "dancers" are just drug-addicts. Sounds like a sad life.

Good for the city of Lavonia. God Bless you all.
Strip clubs are evil places and a blight on any community. These places demean young women and desensitize men to a point where women are just objects of lust.
I would like to have a home in Lavonia. Take America back good people. I'm proud of Lavonia , Georgia!

I don't care for strip clubs myself. I think it was dirty to swindle a store from people by not being honest and letting them decide if they want the low life clientele strip joints attract.

But this was some serious misuse of funding IMO.

Seems to me they could have made it a bit harder for people to go inside and drink for a while an then drive home. They actually could have made money off ticketing the drunk patrons leaving and put a message out at the same time.

There is at least one strip club located in Asheville, right off Leicester Hwy.The good citizens of Asheville have done NOTHING to try and get rid of it.There have been shootings and stabbings galore out there. It is so bad that the restaraunt next to it closes its doors at 3 pm on Saturdays just to avoid the rif-raf that it brings in.

You are correct. The Chicken House was in LaGrange, TX and was what ZZ Top was singing about in the song "LaGrange". Also, was where the boys at Texas A&M Univ. got their "rites of passage". I sure do miss that old place.
