My husband and I are thinking about moving to Biloxi. Are there any barge surveying jobs there in the area?

Outside my surveying Mardi Gras barges in the annual parades I haven't a clue as to what a barge surveyor does.

Where we live a barge surveyor Measures different stuff on barges like scrap metal, oil etc to help find the weight of whats on the barge. So the companies know how much to pay whoever they are getting the materials from. Somewhat like land surveying but actually quite different too.

I'm still flummoxed. I am in no way a marine specialist nor have knowledge beyond a rudimentary understanding of barge activity beyond what little I read. It would seem to me that anything going onto or into a barge would have it's weight and/or volume pretty well defined before it is loaded. The barge itself would have particular design specifications that would delineate what the purchaser of said barge had for its intended use hence, the limitations are known. From an enforcement point I can see where this position might apply. Must be more to it than I understand. Thanks for your patience in my not understanding this.

Try Mississippi Power. I know they used to survey the coal barges upon Entry and Exit to determine the amount of Coal/$$$ actually used. Not sure of any other industries around here that use such a method.
