Heres one for you its from earlier this year:
n 1964, 3 silver dimes could buy you a gallon of gas (about 27/gallon); At the current rate of silver, the metal value of 3 silver dimes would be about $3, just enough for a gallon of gas.
I checked the math. Silver was $1.29/ounce in 1964, according to Kitco.com . Today's spot price is $12.93, again, according to Kitco. According to 1960sFlashback.com , gasoline was 30/gallon in 1964. And according to MSN, a gallon of gas in Charlottesville today ranges from $2.27 to $2.59/gallon.
So if anything, gasoline has gotten cheaper. At least by the silver standard. By the gold standard ($35.10/ounce in 1964 versus $650/ounce today), we should expect a gallon of gasoline to cost $5.55 in present dollars, so by gold-standard prices, gasoline prices have fallen significantly.
Today's spot price for silver is $18.20. That would put a gallon of gas at $4.23.
In Charlottesville, gas prices range from $3.71 to $3.92 per gallon.
So Gas hasn't really gone up the Dollar has gone down!
Something to think about if Gold was $5k per OZ a loaf of bread would be $500! Gallon of gas Only God knows!
Thanks Federal Reserve!( btw they have nothing to do with the federal Gov. they regulate the value of the Dollar )
That was the dumbest rant I've ever read. If you have any sense you realize that silver has nothing on God's earth to do with gas. We can't make silver, we can make gas and there is plenty of oil, we just have to be willing to drill for it.

Again a personal attack and no research. The US dollar was once based on Gold & Silver. Now its just paper. The value it has is based on the amount of it in Circulation. More money is printed no than there has been in the History of the USA.

WASHINGTON (Reuters)- The average retail price for U.S. gasoline hit a record of $4.11 a gallon, rising 1.9 cents over last week, the government said on Monday.

The national price for regular, self-service gasoline is up $1.13 from a year ago, reflecting rising crude oil costs that reached a record above $145 a barrel last week, the federal Energy Information Administration said in its weekly survey of service stations.

clueless!
We don't "make gas". We refine gas out of oil that we get out of the ground. We refine siver out of ore that we get out of the ground.
They are both commodities that have value. Our monetary system used to be based on siver and gold as required by the U.S. Constitution (for a reason). Now it is a worthless "fiat money system". Look it up and learn something before calling someone else an idiot. Our finacial throats were cut in 1913 and our femorial arteries were cut in 1964. We financialy bled out in 1970.

Prices are getting lower. Saw $2.49 in Waveland and $2.40 in Slidell today. Plus oil was down to around $66 today which means we should see low gas prices soon.

McInsane's a Vote for Israel
JERUSALEM Tova Weinberg is a lifelong Democrat, but she's voting for John McCain.
Weinberg, 54, isn't attracted by the Republican's position on the economy or the Iraq war. Like many of her compatriots living in Israel, she is voting for the candidate she believes will be a better friend to the Jewish state.

Gas always goes down in the winter months because demand goes down. It'll shoot up again in the summer. Just wait.

The era of cheap gas is over.

If you have a pickup for non-work purposes - lose it.

Same with SUVs and other gas guzzlers.

Get a fuel-efficient car and join the ranks of the normal American society and stop living in the 40s.

I thought $2.49 was good, Idiot...I filled up yesterday on the westbank of New Orleans, Manhatten Blvd for $1.47 a gallon.

For once Wade -- you're correct. The dollar has indeed collapsed. However - that doesn't mean that UFOs are coming to pick you up....it just means in the long-term you need to look to leave the US to protect your assets.
