Life in Gulfport

My family and I live in Ohio but we need a change so we are planning on moving to Gulfport in the very near future. None of us have ever even been to Mississippi so, I was hoping to hear what you have to say about the area. Some specifics I would like to know about are things like the state of economy, housing, crime, work, beaches, and extra curricular activities. Any and all comments about "life in Gulfport" is welcome. Thanks!!

Hot, high, summer humidity unlike anything you have ever experienced. Roaches the size of a child's shoes. Mosquitoes/Gnats that will bite the crap out of you until you're a bloody mess.
Other than that, it's a nice place to live, until the hurricanes show up.
That's why I personally moved away! I lived on the coast for over 25 years for the record, so I speak from experience.
Lastly, notice how long it took for someone to respond to you, so you can rule out hospitality that the south is suppose to be famous for.
Good luck to you.
