I'm all for this becoming green space. However, doesn't it seem a bit pre-mature for both the DMR to move forward with demolition and the city/county to spend funds on such a project which may revert back to the original owner should the OIG determine the property was improperly purchased with CIAP funding...Seems that both parties should hold off until the issue at hand is resolved.

They want itto be torn down ASAP so that the government investigators cannot come out and reassess the shed, thus discovering how fraudulent and inflated the DMRs value was!!! The city is in com, pliance too, they probably have something to hide as well...certain city employees.

They probably are rushing it thru hoping the Feds will say "oh its all done, its not worth rolling back."

I agree with you guys -- now that the light in the room has been turned on -- the roaches are scattering for the shadows, trying to cover their rears.

What is the status of the old Harbor Landing boat shed? Thought is was going to be demolished.

Now that boat shed is gone, what are future plans for that location? I confess I am a little confused about why it was torn down in the first place.

it will now be turned into green space. i believe the city is currently working with the CIAP program to determine what can and cant be done with the property with regard to "beautification"

You whats sad is that taxpayers paid over $3.0 mil for that structure just to tear it down. Still do not understand why they ever let them build it in the first place. That money could have been a lot better spent for some decent parking and boat ramps.

The money spent is a planned scheme to liquidate a friends business by Bill and Scott Walker who I bet benifited. PLEASE FBI investigate this misuse of the peoples money.

Yes, PLEASE take a look at this deal! Don't forget for almost two years Harris got to run it and keep all the money without paying any mortgage, taxes, or insurance on the place. Why hasn't the government demanded an accounting?

The reason it was torn down is that in 2010 David Harris, his wife Melba and whoever else owned it (maybe Tom Reynolds?) sold it to Billy Walker's DMR using Federal monies that mandated that it HAD to be torn down, it was part of the deal. Why anyone would have chosen a post-Katrina building complex for that CIAP 4 million bucks (and they kept the $50,000 marina bull and all the restaurant stuff on top of that) when land was available everywhere for purchase without any buildings on it or active businesses is because the value could be overinflated and the sellers could get a huge windfall from public money.

What was part of the dirty deal was that two months after it sold the city of OS was already setting up for a perversion of the CIAP rules to turn it over again! When the Walkers got caught, everyone got caught and so it was torn down as the grant said it had to be. Look at it this way: Walker was such a dedicated preservationist that he would pay his dear friends the Harrises millions of bucks to give us that green space! And risk his career too! And his wife's career! And, geez, Harris even got to keep all the money!!!!
