If any of you are still employed there, and you are so unhappy LEAVE! How childish to sit behind a key board and trash people you really don't know anything about, you are just repeating and adding your own spin to gossip! Talia is doing a wonderful job, but when she has to deal with people like you I'm sure it makes her job more difficult. Anyone that has been fired/laid off had it coming and honestly don't know how they made it as long as they did! Funny how I still work there and I don't know what's going on in each department. And how does everyone know Talia' work history, school history and think you have the right to post negative things about her? If all the people, like yourselves, would leave I'm sure the whole casino would be a lot better off! I have worked at several casinos and they ALWAYS overhire when they open. And there were not 400 layoffs...a lot of the ones that were had poor work performance, poor attendance and the lay off was justified! Why don't you work on your resume over the weekend and put your notice in Monday. I can promise you that you won't be missed!

Who the heck cares if people got their job by knowing someone. That's how this world works. Is it unfair? Yes. But that's just how life is. Hard work will allow you to become one of these "elite people who know someone".

If you want to hire the average joe, open your own business and get to hiring.

Talia don't have to directly deal with me on a day-to-day basis at her job. Facts are facts. Everybody in the casino knows it. Lay offs, some employees were laid off for no reason other then being "not a favorite" but there work was always good and never caused any problems. The while casino at Mville is a total cluster and the place shoud have never been opened!

This is an "at will" state, meaning you work at the will of your employer. You can be fired for almost any reason, or no reason, unless you work on a yearly contract where they can fire you for cause. They can also choose not to renew the contract. Unless one has a discrimination case, the chances of getting a job back or winning a lawsuit are almost nil. Sorry.

Those employees that were laid off should have become "a favorite". Hard work is a simple way to "become a favorite". Why on earth would a company want to fire an employee that was beneficial to the company? I don't see that happening, unless the goals of the company were to fail. Something I noticed is that everybody thinks they are the hardest working, most productive person in the world. The people that think that can usually be found in the break room.

I am a current employee and see many people that are still employeed and kept there jobs in various depts around the casino when they don't do as good of a job as people that were laid off. As far a being a favorite you would think "hard work" woul make you a favorite. Not always the truth! Kissing ass and trying to befriend your boss is a way to be a favorite. No matter how hard you work, if your there to work and not kiss ass you will be let go. And a "rite to wok state" is true about MS. It's just a shame that good workers get fired bc they work and don't kiss ass, or are family with upper management or directors

Just received a phone call from a bartender at margaritaville telling me there was a bartender with the same name as me fired for blogging on this site. Shows how the casino over reacts and fires people for having the same name as somebody that's talking. It's a real shame that happened. If anybody here can get me the info for the gentleman that was fired for me putting my name on here I would be greatly appreciated so I could try and contact him to apologize to him. I feel bad for using my own name, as affecting the employment of somebody that I don't even know an would know if I was to see him. Again any help in getting me his name and contact info would be great so I can contact him and sincerely apologize to him. Thanks to anybody that can help me
For future reference no matter what you do online always use a fake name, & usually something generic like 'gulf' or 'biloximan' or 'casinoguy' or something like that.

That way the only ppl who could figure out who you are ppl who hack -- & that's a federal offense or via some kind of court order -- & that would open up whoever got the court order to a privacy invasion lawsuit.

So use common sense guys, use a fake name.

Yall just a bunch of hatters!!!!!!!!!!
If the economy were better they would "move on."

A guy I know worked there & quit when they refused to give him part time status to work around his other job.

Many people would love to "move on" -- not only from the job but from this region entirely. I'm stuck here, I have no money to leave, my house is semi-paid for. But if I could tomorrow, I'd hop up & move to Dallas or Atlanta or Florida or any other better place than this dump.

This "be lucky you even have a job" crap is why the coast is in such big shit right now. Now, I don't feel lucky I have a job. The rich should pay more in taxes & hire more people instead of hoarding cash out of greed.

Maybe because like me @ a previous job -- if they do follow protocol & complain about workplace conditions to management they'll be deemed 'lazy' or 'incompetent' & 'laid off' due to 'restructurings.'

Not everybody's like you with a connected relative boss to make sure they don't get fired. Has nothing to do with maturity, just realism. There's a reason ppl speak under an alias -- they fear losing their jobs or they fear their relatives or friends being retaliated against by the connected idiots who run the casino who got their jobs BECAUSE WHO they know not what they know.

It's really shitty on your part to do that, now I am jobless during holiday season over this, that I am just now hearing about from friends!! With jobs as hard to come by as they are down here. I hope and pray that I can find out who you are and find you!!!! If you have a problem with the casino or people there. Don't go there!!! But now I am jobless bc of your post using your name Marc! If it is or isn't your name it don't matter. But what matters is your negative post cost me my job, that I busted my ass when I was there and was trying to tuff it out for the end prise. But I lost that chance over something I didn't even know was going on!!! So I hope KARMA gets you if I can't find out who you are!!
Are you mentally retarded? Assuming this isn't just a staged thing here if what you are saying is true you have grounds for a wrongful termination lawsuit in federal and state court regardless of us being a right-to-work state. If you indeed were not the person typing & they falsely & maliciously terminated your employment go see an attorney. If you can prove that the ISP numbers for the other Marc is not you then you could be getting a fat settlement from a lawyer.

That's a BIG no no. Go talk to a lawyer, you have a case.

Because 2 reasons -- 1 they can't 'just leave.'

Many people have mortgages, student loan debt, credit card debt, child support payments, etc & either they work or they go out on the streets. And Margarita is probably the ONLY casino that's hiring right now. All the others are locked up like vice grip. You couldn't get on at any of the others unless you know somebody or have decades in the business.

As for the 'good old boy' or in this case I guess it would be 'good old girl' scheme(s)-- that's the way it works EVERYWHERE HERE. The shipyards in Pascagoula & Moss Point & the oil refinery in Pascagoula work the EXACT SAME way. I've been interviewed scores of times to work @ the shipyard & @ Chevron. I passed all their tests, they just don'e have enough work. The guys in charge pull strings to get their family & friends the jobs. They "put in a word" for so & so.

Margarita will fold because of bad management, no hotel, & the simple fact of the economy. Coast gaming revenues peaked in 2007 and we STILL haven't gotten back to those levels, even in non-inflation adjusted terms. The more casinos you add -- the more layoffs you get @ the other casinos -- it becomes a mrrket that feeds off itself.

You may have experience but usually so do 40 other people. If you got the job 9 times out of 10 in this region its because you know somebody who pulled strings for you, that's 'just the way things are done down here.' Its been that way for as long as I've lived here.

You don't honestly believe you "earned" you job do you? Its about who you know, not what you know or what you did or do. Basically if you know somebody & show up for work & look like you're trying they'll probably keep you on....that's how it works around here.

Who cares? Me & a whole helluva lotta other pissed off people who waited in line back in April trying to get on @ this pointless job. They offered me 6 5 hr shifts @ 9 dollars an hour, wasn't even worth getting out of bed for given the price of gasoline.

"Working hard" does nothing. I know idiots who "work hard" all the time & never get ahead & are in constant bad financial straights & will be their entire life. You don't get ahead by "hard work" -- you get ahead by knowing people.

As for 'opening your own business...'-- cute line but not one grounded in reality. People would, if the fu**ing start up costs weren't into the hundreds of thousands for even a small business that has a high probability of failing....

Not in federal court(federal law trumps state law) & not if they falsely fired you for doing something that somebody else did.

If that guy was telling the truth he does indeed have grounds for a federal wrongful termination lawsuit.

You can hide behind that Republican smokescreen of "well businesses can do whatever they want" -- actually lol, no, they can't.

Federal labor laws still apply & it would be nice if the workers would wise up & bring in the unions so they aren't @ the whims of a couple of fickle moody 'good old girls' who get rid of them when they don't need them any more.

You ask?

Because organizations are not rational structures. Because each dept has its own autonomous nature. Meaning each manager has leeway over how their dept is run.

And nepotism is used to say this guy is 'harder working' than that woman or vice versa. There is no rational way to quantify 'hard work.' Its on the whim of the manager & the brownnosers & relatives always win out.

Just the way its always been in this region & the way it always will be.

You are lazy.
Where do you live, Texas??? I pay $3.00 a gallon for gasoline currently. You can make a profit on $270 a week just paying for gas. I do!
As for opening your own business- If you can afford the "hundred's of thousands of dollars in start up costs" (I started my business on a $20 bill)then tough luck. This world is not fair. Deal with it.
Open your own business, hire who you want, and then you can call the shots.

At "gulf" I am 100% positive I had nothing to to with the postings in this site till I was informed what was being said that casino after I was terminated over the phone, they couldn't even call me in for a meeting and discuss things or even ask me if I knew anything about this blog or postings. I was called and informed "I am not longer an employee of the casino and 86d from the property. When I asked why I was being fired I was told "my conduct." I then asked "what conduct" bc I don't even have a write up on my record, and I informed this person I wa talking to I never damaged property, made threats to damage destroy, harm or cause any problems and he responded "I know you haven't did any of that, I am just telling you what HR told me to tell you." I think it's more comical then anything, how it was done ad handled. It's a shame nobody could talk to me face to face like an adult. Instead of HR calling me in for a meeting to see what's going on, they get security to call me and "inform" me of HRs decision to terminate me and my direct manager had no idea about it.
