The Margaritaville Casino is probably...

"where are the stories about the three other "higher-ups" who have quit recently which put up red flags, causing the gaming commision to go in & do an emergency audit 2 weeks ago? The casino doesn't have enough cash on hand to cover bets. They are in very bad shape. Anyone who works there or at the gaming comish will attest to this. This is media cover-up, plain & simple."

Just found this in the comments section too. Didn't know the gaming commission did an audit 2 weeks ago. Wouldn't shock me though -- 4 execs leave all @ once....

So far Margaritaville Biloxi has laid off around 400 employees, they will be running out of food soon because they owe the distributor and are currently COD only. They have not paid most of the subcontractors that built it and have not paid their gaming taxes in two months. Currently they are discussing only staying open until midnight. Where has all the money gone to Tom Brosig?
I'm sure it will all come out soon!

The place is a nightmare. I am a former employee there. And they are hurting for money. The EVS dept that cleans the casino was out of cleaning chemicals for over a week bc the casino didn't have the money to get the supplies. They were just going in and doing a whipe threw in the bathrooms. Talk about NASTY!!!!! The CEO Tom Brosig needs to be let go as well bc he clearly don't know what he is doing.
Really wondering

Thats outstanding info, anyone else employed or former employed care to share? I knew there was a reason not to wait in a sea of 2,000 people in order for one chance at part time employment that would be guaranteed to end by the close of summer. Such a disappointment and I truely hope all who have been laid off or fired find other work or at least unemployment (which I doubt they will pay). I am no employee of this casino nor any other, I have been to m ville once and was disappointed, but I follow this thread closely in amazement at how sad thi situation is turning out. My thoughts to all who are affected, we the people of the coast really deserved better even from a casino.

You know I don't think its his fault. Had this opened say in 04 or 05 when the economy was still good the business would be there. Brosig's probably doing everything by the book. So did Ms. Sock. The 3 big problems with the casino are first, location, I've lived on the coast most of my life & I had trouble finding it. 2, never should have been approved. The state gaming commission knew the market couldn't handle it but they still brought it on because they falsely though the Parrotheads would make it sustainable...hasn't materialized. Last -- the market is simply flooded. Gaming revenues for both the coast & the state peaked in 2007. We STILL haven't even gotten back to 07 revenue levels -- & that's not even adjusting for inflation. The gaming commission shouldn't allow ANY new casinos @ all. They should be trying to prop up the ones they have now that have declining revenues.

Margarita simply put shouldn't have been built, & the idiots @ the gaming commission should be fired for incompetence.

Sad -- it really is -- all those ppl were hoping for new careers & now they're about to get hosed. Well if they started back in the spring or early summer & get laid off legally they should be able to get @ least a year's unemployment. Good luck to them.

Former employee here. So glad I quit months ago
and got a job at a thriving casino making actual
money...
They fired most of the staff at the Marina blaming
them for the poor success. Now they're trying to
sell those food trucks out there because they
can't afford to keep them & need the money.
Two friends who were employees basically were
forced to quit as the casino steadily reduced
their hours from full time 40 to 35 to 30 to 20
to 9 and then to 0...asking them to be On Call.
Basically they did this so they'd quit and couldn't
draw the Unemployment they so deserve to collect.

Dirty deeds done dirt cheap.

He said himself in Orientation he has been trying to open this
casino since the Beau opened its doors. But wasn't given the loans
bc word was MGM would swallow up the business.
Tried again a few years after and Katrina hit.
Then a few years later the economy crashes and there was no money
to be given for anything.
Why he still opened it after all these setbacks is beyond me. Like
he was adamant it'd be a success ... living in the past. The market
just isn't there..the economy just can't support it. Unless you've
been in this game a while and have established a clientele, the numbers aren't in your favor right now. Maybe for someone with
some know how & innovative business sense. It doesn't appear this
operation had any of that.

This place is the worst I had ever worked for. The only casino I have heard off taking 1hour out of each day for lunch, taking 2$ out of your check each day you work for food no matter if you eat or not. It wasn't marketed very well, no signs to get there. No wonder why the place is on a downward spiral fast!!!!

That's what happened to my friend who worked there. They started them out doing 40s. Then downed him to 30. Then to 15. And they wanted him to do 3 '5 hour' shifts. Meaning with gas being 3 something a gallon -- costs him more each week than just doing 2 '7 hr shifts.'

He found himself another job & tried to stay on @ Margarita on his off days @ his other job but they said he 'had to be on call all the time or they couldn't work him.'

In other words -- they didn't want to work him but they didn't want to work around his other schedule. Just a total clusterf**k.

When I was younger I would work @ fast food & restaurants and EVERY SINGLE ONE did that to me. They double-dipped. They made your lunch break, which was unpaid, so short you had to eat with them or you wouldn't make it back on time. And then they double-dipped by taking the cost of your food out of your check.

Yeah to hell with that. A system like that deserve to fail.

Didn't know that. What idiots finally gave him the funding to finance it? Buffett? Was it a big casino company?

believe or not they actually took advantage of our hard earned tax dollars. Margaritaville used state GO money, thats probably why the hired so many employees. I'm outraged and will be calling my state Senators office to express my displeasure of our tax dollars supporting a Coast Casino.

I have a friend that didn't get laid off over there but with managers changing different Venues he got left off the new schedule after only working 2days in the last month. He said he has tried to find out what is going on with his schedule and why he isn't on the schedule bc he hasn't been fired, or laid off and his managers give him the run around and say "there are working on it" when the new schedule is already made and he isn't on it. That's a real great way to treat your employees. Work them 2days a month when he isn't laid off or fired but have no answers to give him when he ask about the schedule

Horrible company .. Geez. Hate it for your friend but this company will get its karmic due. I've heard casinos have to stay open at least 6 months before they can declare bankruptcy or sell. I'm sure we'll see it bought out very soon

He's been laid off. They're trying to buy time so he doesn't file for unemployment. Tell him to cease all communication with Margarita & to file for unemployment. When he does tell him be vague & say "my manager" said I'm no longer on the schedule & that I'm laid off.

When the unemployment ppl call to check Margarita will give some bs runaround But tell him to insist that his manager told him he's off the schedule & on lay off. Use those terms, its very important. If it appears he quit he gets no unemployment. And this isn't gaming the system, he's honest & wants to work & they screwed him over. He's worked in 2 consectutive quarters, he entitled to benefits. He's been laid off, they're just trying to buy time because the more ppl who file -- the higher their unemployment claim goes up.

Too bad -- tell him to file & go look for work elsewhere, they won't be calling him back. Ms Sock is the fall-person for this fiasco. You're friend won't be going back tell him to get a job elsewhere, good luck.
