Wow! Looks like the gaming commission is either coming to their senses on their own or they've been reading some of my ideas. So all new casinos before they get approval will be required to have large parking lots, a 4 star hotel rather than 2 stars, larger buffets & fine dining, etc.

I see they've been reading this forum. Seems they realize that overall revenue is in DECLINE & that coast gaming(& state gaming revenues for that matter) revenues PEAKED in both inflation adjusted & nominal terms in 2007. 6 years ago. We still have not gotten back to our peak then.

And as can be seen with Margarita -- w/out a casino, good comps & large buffets/restaurants & a 4 star hotel -- why would people keep coming back? Doesn't make any sense does it?

And if gaming revenues peaked -- & in fact if you read the news reports they've BEEN IN DECLINE for the past 2 years. So basically you have MORE casinos chasing LESS REVENUE. Meaning the Beau/Island View/Grand/IP/etc are all just going to get a smaller cut of the pie & the pie is getting smaller. You don't create more jobs, you just take away jobs from other casinos who then get less revenue. Its market oversaturation.

In such a highly regulated market as gaming -- a controlled market is a healthy market. The parent companies for the IP/Beau/Isle/Boomtown/etc will not continue to make capital investments & improvements on the existing properties if they see the state gaming commission pushing new casinos(like the new D'Iberville one coming thru) thru that will eat into their market share & potential profits.

And I think we need to be very concerned about out-of-state expansion of gaming in the region. I had no visited Shreveport in about 10 years before this past summer when I visited friends in Texas. I was quite shocked to see that Shreveport now has about as many casinos as Biloxi/Gulfport & Lake Charles/New Orleans/Baton Rouge all have many as well. Louisiana is expanding gaming as are Indian tribes that will eat into for instance gamblers coming from Florida or Georgia or Texas. Instead of driving all the way to Tunica or Biloxi now -- they just stop off in Shreveport or Lake Charles or @ one of the Indian casinos in Georgia or Alabama or Florida.

In this economy ppl are penny-pinching. And many would prefer to just head over to Shreveport for the weekend instead of taking a far more pricey trip to Biloxi.

So in essence the gaming commission seems to be 'tightening standards' to make sure that we don't get cut rate casinos blindly throwing up construction. The new ones will have to draw ppl in from outside of the region.

But even then, if Atlantic City with its recent Revel casino bankruptcy/failure as an indication I'm not too sure even tightening standards will do much.

If you're gonna spend so much money -- why not just to freaking Vegas? Why waste money going to podunk Biloxi? That's the point. I think the gaming commission is beginning to realize we're a regional market -- not an international one or even a national market even though we like to delude ourselves into thinking so.

First, I think people need to either get a life or at least get the facts right. Unlike the rest of the gaming areas around the country, "Podunk Biloxi" has not gone up but certainly hasn't dropped in last few years according to press releases. I think that is huge statement for a "Podunk" town. Second, on behalf of the thousands of casino employees, their families and local small buisness in this "Podunk" town, kiss our ass and go back to Vegas or Atlantic City.

I'm from this podunk ass town dude. We had a great run in the 90s & early 2000s because gaming in Louisiana & @ regional Indian casinos wasn't as fierce. Now competition has increased, Katrina destroyed the coast & the recession has fucked us all....

Don't get defensive. We're a regional market, not a national one, as we claim, that's the only pt I was trying to make.

Went to Vegas last December and it has really turned into some kind of circus freakshow sponsored by Disneyworld. The Mexicans at every corner shoving pornography in the face of tourists (adverts for legal Clark county prostitution) makes for some interesting street litter to be trampled upon by fools stupid enough to bring their toddlers there. Vegas got way too big for their pants and it shows in the crude superficiality of the place. In all it is a DUMP. I know plenty of people who would rather come to Biloxi any day.

We love their buffet! Been going since August. And since we are players we now pay $9 for all you can eat crab, prime rib and shrimp. Yes $9! Most of the time its comped. Thats certainly better than the other casinos by far. Considering I waited hours for a Disney ride or check in to an airline I have no problem simply because of the food. A line? Dah!!!! If you don't want to wait in line for a meal under $10 go to McDonalds or,,,,,go to Beau or Bbomtown and pay almost three times without the seafood and friendly employees...

Think you took the post the wrong way. Most of the people here are fine. Simple common folk like you'll find anywhere. I'm not bashing the people who live here. Just the lack of jobs & the bad economy & the general culture, that's all.

I'm sure you're a nice enough person & I think you mistook my comments the wrong way. I have nothing against you personally so much as the lack of economic opportunity, the endemic political corruption & local apathy, & the general culture of the region, that's all.

Didn't mean any offense to you or any other individual.

Nope, but wish management would comment to some of this crap. You obviously don't go there or haven't been in a while. I've been there at leat once a week and you completely missed my point. It's the best deal in town right now. Thats simply it. And I know because I have cards with all of them.

Wondering what is next for this casino with the recent departures of the Entertainment manager, Security Director, and HR director? All of these executives have been let go since the new GM stepped in. Makes me wonder where they doing shady stuff or "extra baggage" that needed to be cut? Either way with some of the post of this site and with the departures of these people seems like something was wrong ad maybe these post had been true about some of the employees that work or worked for this lack luster casino

Eugene Ashe- Entertainment Manager (over the stilt walkers)
Adam Joilet-(security director)
Cynthia Simms-(HR director)
With Cynthia's children being buffet manager, and Beverage director. Makes me wonder what Cynthia was doing to be let go and if the children will not far behind there mother since they aren't "protected" by there mom in HR anymore. But it has sparked interested as what other executives will be let go since the NEW GM has taken over

The lines are horrendous to the buffet and cage and needs to be rethought but the food in the buffet is much better then the other casinos. Hands down. Except Beau. but their prices are crazy. Please fix the lines and give Betty a raise.

I noticed they are hiring dealers, waiters, valet people etc. before summer. Sounds like they are busy. The other place we go to has been dead.

Every casino starts hiring this time of year bc of the "busy season" with kids getting out of school and people comming to vacation. After summer business slows down and hours will be cut or lay offs will happen again.
Had some friends went to the buffet last night, said it was "better then it use to be, but still needs alot of work!" This place was set up to fail before the doors ever opened last year

The buffet food is a lot better than it was a few months ago. You can't beat the price anywhere. The logistics of it do need some work. They do need to spread it out some. I heard they are working the "space" issues thru-out the casino floor. Thats good. Its decent enough place. I know my dad (who is an elderly gentleman) goes fairly regularly, and enjoys it. The hosts know his name, that he occasionally has a hard time hearing, and if his name gets called for one of the drawings, they go find him to make sure he knows it. They are treating their customers much better than they did a few months ago. When he was a regular customer at other casinos, he was not treated as well at the others Yes he knows its all part of the "casino game" but wouldnt you rather go somewhere that you are treated like a person instead of a place like the beau rivage where they treat you like a number. I appreciate the way they treat my dad, it makes him feel good. I was in there with him the other day, and everyone down to the clean up lady knew his name, asked after his health, and introduced themselves to me. Numerous emloyees stopped by to say hello to him. And he is NOT a high roller or big tipper. But those people took their time to stop by and say hello to him. He doesnt have a lot of time left with us, and I am glad he has a "hobby" that gets him out of the house, and goes somewhere that people try to make him comfortable, and are friendly to him.
still wondering

Looks like it is all turning around for the casino, did they ever do anyhting with the boat launch in back? How about the beer trailer? Is new management connected to any other casinos on the coast? All in all Im sure glad to hear change has been made, now hopefully the summer hiring will lead to permanent positions of employment here on the coast. Good job Margaritaville!
