Heartless because they have a sick child? I had a sick child in the hospital for three months until he died but I still managed to provide for my family and devided my time between my job every single day and the hospital until they kicked us out at night.
Stay in Maryland and keep you nose out of things that you know nothing about!

I love tato-nut donuts. I was born and raised in Ocean Springs and I support the buisness. If they chose to close to take care of family matters thats fine by me. Life is precious and its more important than donuts. Plus atleast they make the donuts they sell unlike that other place. They get theirs trucked in.

1 cup shortening
2 cups mashed potatoes
4 cups lukewarm milk
5 eggs*, beaten
1 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons yeast dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
12 to 15 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
Scald milk with shortening. Add sugar, salt and enough flour to make a thin batter, about the consistency of cake batter. Add the mashed potatoes, beaten eggs, dissolved yeast and lemon extract. Add enough more flour to make a soft dough. Let rise twice, then roll out and cut into doughnut shapes. Let rise again until light. Drop doughnuts into hot oil (375 degrees to 400
degrees), raised-side down. Turn once. Remove from
heat and drain briefly before dipping into a glaze
made by mixing powered sugar and water at a ratio of 1 cup to 2 Tablespoons, respectively. Add more water if
needed. Makes 10 to 12 dozen spudnuts. ENJOY!!!!!
* note: If you cut the recipe in half, use 3 eggs.

I love their donuts, but as a business owner, I'm not as Harsh as "not a fan" but I do believe a business should be able to sustain itself no matter who is not able to come in for the day, week, or month. If your business can't operate cause you take a day off then you either need to not take a day off ever or put processes and people you trust in place to maintain business while you're out. It's a cardinal rule of business. I know if my business operated the way TatoNut does, randomly opening and closing, I would have no customers. And the city and media wouldn't make a big announcement every time I reopened. Cause they would be disappointed by the way I was handling my business professionally. Let's be honest would people accept that from any other business? If Walmart, gas stations, other restaurants closed every time the manager was out people would stop coming and it would be their demise. So my suggestion to Tatonut and any other business put some proccesses in place and trust your employees to do their jobs while you're there or away. This is negative attention that can easily be avoided.
