This was DOA.The numbers never crunched.Should be a park or something that fits the neighorhod. The people did no want it.Now the money is invested in the site so get it back and do something with it.The developer has another location on Hyway 90 that is also a nonstarter and if they do build,it will not work in Ocean Springs because the demand is just not here for what they proposed.

Why are taxpayers funding this? This business is getting a $1 a year lease from the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber was given the property by the city, which bought it using a Community Development Block Grant (government money). This is a private enterprise, not a government project.

This is another example of Connie Moran giving out partial information to the board to get another project started that will come back and cost the taxpayers more in property tax to cover the expenses that were never disclosed from the start. Every project that was started comes in over budget and no where close to being on time. Will she ever be held accountable? Watch who she is supporting in the upcoming elections. It will tell you a lot about what she wants to do.

The Board had full knowledge and voted to move foward with this project. The blame for the hotel being a nonstarter out of the gate falls equally on all.The developer put on a good dog and pony show to convince all of the city leaders he had the ability to do this development. Many business people in the community knew the numbers didn't work.Eventually the banks agreed. Now the questio is who currently owns the property and what will be done with it? Has it been removed from the tax rolls?

I don't believe the board would have supported this if they knew the developer was unable to get financing. If the truth were known about many of the transactions that have taken place over the past 8 years, you would be surprised to find out that those kind of details were never divulged to them by the Mayor. She knew the developer was unable to get financed by the banks. A better question is how much has been wasted in improvements to the property that were not needed if it would have been a parking lot as promised. The property was transferred to the Ocean Springs Chamber. A quick call to the city clerk can determine if taxes are being collected.

I told everyone that would listen that this project would never happen. I am an unpaid consultant who knew from the beginning that the Hburgers were full of bull.

I didn't know if it "would happen" or not but I always knew if it did, it would fail. Downtown OS doesn't have nearly the appeal that some think. All they do is poach a little bit of the drunk crowd that used to go to the casinos....

Who the hell wants to stay in downtown Ocean Springs? It was better before they brought in all the overrated bars. I grew up around there & miss the old pre-Katrina downtown. They've raped it, bad.
