I haven't been there in years but what I hear from friends of friends is that it is not that nice and is near impossible to sell if you get tired of going.

Google the name, you'll surely get some opinions.

My opinion is "no, don't do it"

Please dont do it. I was scammed by them and know im paying dearly for it. They will lie to you to get you to join. It is a dump, and when you have questions about your account with them they will not call back to help. Then they will lie later about never being called. So dont do it you are better off hanging out in Moss Point.

I too was scammed by this people. I know the owner and he is the one that talk to us in joining merbership @ Martins Lake Resort. We actualy trust this people because we thought they are friend. But they tried to stab us in the back. My husband and I tried to talk to them to cancelled our membership but they said they can't do nothing but instead told us to sell it to somebody. The contract you signed not cancellable and if you have to sell it or give it away you still have to pay a transfer fee of $200.00 dollars

Yep, you are not alone. The guy that talked to me said that they were christian based and we would be able to cancel at any time if a financial issued happened. Well when it came time they would not return my call and told me the same later, just to sell it. I tell people now all the time to avoid that place, it is the biggest waste of money out there. I recommend just going to the gulf coast national seashore park, you get the same with out the scam! Karma is a bitch and they will get what they deserve one day!

SCAM ALERT! SCAM ALERT! SCAM ALERT!
Please avoid Martins Lake Resort like you would, I don't know, how about the SWINE FLU! You cannot just cancel your membership, you have to sell it to someone. But then you feel like a heel for dropping that crap on someone else. I had never heard of not being a able to quit something after you have paid it off. Not Martins Lake. You have to pay a yearly maintenance fee. I got scammed many years ago and I'm still paying for it, every year. The will not let you quit. The guy told me they only had a few memberships left, that was 15 years ago. I have been paid off for years and years, but they will not let you quit. I am thinking about taking out an ad underneath Martins Lake ad in coffee news and saying, "Martins Lake is a scam". I have stayed there twice and swam in the lake twice. Have I mentioned, IT IS A SCAM!

I would put money in on that so nobody else gets ripped off by these lying thieves. I tell every person I know not to fall for that scheme.

I am filling a complaint with the MS Attorney
Generals office. Call them and they will send you the complaint form. Unfortunately they are not aware of any complaints.
You need to ask for the Consumer Protection Division.

Your comment is SOOO true!!! We were stationed in Biloxi for 3 years. When it was time to transfer we were told that because we were millitary and moving due to orders our dues would only be $99.00/yr. I asked Jerry at that time to put it in writing in case someone else denied it. He said "Don't worry, just ask for me and I'll take care of it, I'll remember talking to you." How DUMB do I feel now???? I should have INSISTED on getting it in writing. Everyone was truly kind to us the few times we did stay there, so we trusted him. After we moved I tried contacting MLR on several occasions but would never get any response. I tried emailing before and after Katrina but still, no response. I sent an email advising them we were going to be stationed overseas and would like to discuss the fees possibly being suspended while we were there. No one would respond and phone lines were down. After moving overseas I contiued emailing them. Last year I happened to be in the States and my husband called me to advise me we received a letter from a collection agency. I called to see why and they stated MLR said they couldn't contact us and hadn't heard from us... I told them what happened and, of course, was told to just pay what we owed and then we could speak to MLR. MLR would NOT speak to me about the account. I asked them why they never responded to my calls and or emails and she said we never received anything from you!?!?!??!?! So, we made payment arrangemets, paid it off and are STILL having problems with them. They supposedly "updated" our account with the collection agency for new dues. I asked them why they hadn't contacted us about these dues as we were told all dues that should be paid were included in the collection amount!!! I was able to speak to someone at MLR and she was RUDE!!!! She said now that you owe us money and don't want to pay you contact us! I told her I HAD been trying for years to contact them and could not get response...Anyway, I asked to speak to Jerry and was told he was on vacation and would call me back after he returned. Of course he never called. I would call the office and "MS. Rude" would recognize my voice and say he's not in and would take a message. I finally got tired of that and sent an email asking to have Jerry call me. I received an email stating "At this time your account has been turned over to our collection agency and we cannot work with you."
My hubby wrote back "So what was your excuse before we had been turned over to the collection agency." They responded "Being sarcastic is definitely NOT the way to get what you want around here!@" Well, being polite doesn't work either!!!!!!! I am going to write back stating that!
What can we do???? WE WANT OUT!!!!
Sorry I went on and on, we am just soooooooooooo frustrated!

Disappointed. Please get the complaint form from the MS Attorney Generals office and file a complaint. Being in the military could be helpfull since they may have violated some MS law.So far they are not in violation.

There is definitely a scam going on at Martin Lake. My mother has had a membership there for many years and we have tried at least three times to make reservations (up to six months in advance) but no-one emails us back or when we call, the person who answers(Cathy)is extremely rude. I honestly don't know how these people stay in business. The place is a dump, their website hasn't been updated since 2005, the pictures are outdated and the office staff are rude and trashy.
I'll stay in hotels and be treated with respect.

Let's do something about this. Go to agjimhood.com and download the complaint form to file with the Office of Consumer Protection. They are aware of Martin Lake but they need to hear form all of us so they have more to work with. Also, complain to the BBB. There have only been 11 complaints filed at the BBB and they are rated as a "B". They need to be rated as an "F"! Please file your complaints.

All of you need to report your complaints in full to the State Attorney Generals Office and file a complaint with the BBB. Such a shame that this has gone on this long. Sue the B@$t&%#s!

Pass the word to everyone you can not to join this place. They are rude and lie about everything. Cathy is a snake and will not assist or return calls, then will lie about ever being contacted. This place sucks!!!!

I have been with Martin Lake since the early 90's when they first opened. I have since been gone since 1996 and hav not been back that way. Although the facility was nice then, I can imagine how it must be now. I also have been havinga terrible time trying to sell the membership, as the annual maintenance fees keep going up. I believe they are close to 300 dollars now. It's been 14 years of maintenance fees. If anyone decides to file a formal complaint please let me know. cbtexpress@hotmail.com
