Ocean Springs Pub Crawl

This really annoys me. The city council approves closing down the street on St. Patrick's Day when there were problems last year from drunken behavior. I know there would be drinking on St. Patrick's Day anyway. However, closing the street will increase the size of the crowd and therefore will increase the problems.
They said they'll patrol the side streets. I guess that means that they'll tolerate problem behavior on Government St..

The alderman aren't even calling it a pub crawl. It's a "late night" event. We attract drunks to Government without an "event". Why encourage it? Look at the restaurants that have closed down in the past year (Z-Bar Grill, Henrietta's). They served alcohol and still did not make it. Yes, they get one night of a huge drinking crowd for pub crawl. Then what?
Instead of charging a fee for the festivals, which attract well over 100,000 year (most of which are family-friendly and show OS in a good light ) why not charge the bars for the extra police presence @ the pub crawl?

We need to have a group from Mothers Against Drunk Driving come to the next OSBOA meeting and speak to these bone heads. Why encourage this type of behavior? For the money of course.

This was a fun event for all you stiffs! I am not from OS but after coming last year I returned to shop and eat 5-6 times after the pub crawl and I am sure I am not the only one.
For the post on Mother's against drunk driver, there are a lot of responsible drinker. Don't let 1 bad apple spoil the fun for everyone. Get over your old stiff selves. And don't blame this post on the young.

Yes Linda there are those that are responsible when they drink but, I'd be willing to bet it is less than 10%. You appear to be a very forgiving soul. Would you feel the same way if you were to loose a friend or loved one on account of a drunk driver? Would you chalk it up to being a "Bad Apple"?

This is nothing more than a encouragement to drink in excess. A fun event for all? You should ask some of the people who live in the surrounding neighborhoods. All you have to have is one car load of over the limit people to create a drunk driving fatality. Is it all really necessary? Are the tax dollars this important? MADD should attend the OSBOA meeting and give a talk on this alcohol invite by Ocean Springs that could end up with people drinking and maybe driving.
