I actually stayed @ that hotel once. The water @ the hotel actually smells. Its got an odor like a sewer. And I'm not denigrating the hotel or anything, I had a good enough experience there but the water smelled quite literally like shit.

You were probably smelling sulfur in the water. It is quite common here in the south. Sometimes the well needs chlorinating and purging to remove those unplesant odors. But just so you know that is what you were smelling...Sulfur.
