"Did we take care of house and yard, yes! Are there people that dont, yes!"

Good for you. Ask any real estate agent and they will tell you that the majority of renters either do nothing to improve the rented house or are destructive. Ask any homeowner in any development and they will tell you that they prefer not to have renters in their development. There is an incentive for homeowners to maintain and even improve their possession. Renters do not have this incentive because they do not have a vested interest in the home they are renting. That's the facts whether you agree or not. This is not stereotyping--if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck--it probably is a duck.
"..you get mad when people stereotype you as a grouch". I don't get made and I was not being stereotyped--I was called a 'grouch' which I don't mind. I tell the truth but, some people just can't handle the truth and they look at the messenger as a grouch or even worse. That is their problem--not mine.

I for one am appalled after reading assholes oh my bad "give me a break" post. Number one he does not live in Gulf Shores it clearly sais he lives in Foley where yes there is a lot of so called "trailer trash" namely himself. I live on the beautiful island of Gulf Shores and I also rent my home. Which is kept up beautifully inside and out. Never have I ever heard anyone say that they hate renters. The people on this island are all courteous and happy people nothing like this man. I say come, enjoy, be happy whether you rent or live in a tent or even an RV in one of our many RV parks. We have a beautiful town and the people that live here live with pride. Do not judge Gulf Shores or Orange Beach residence for that matter because of one ignorant ass that apparently hates his life that I am grateful lives on the other side of the bridge and not in our wonderful little town. I hope and encourage anyone of you to come live with us on our little piece of heaven

I hope everyone that reads your post, rents in Gulf Shores and not in Foley. Foley is a place where people come to live and establish roots and not buy a house as an investment like you who rent your house for a season or a year or for 3-months for profit. Gulf Shores is a beach area and that is where there are condos and campsites to rent for those who have homes in other places that they just lock-up for a while and come here to enjoy the beach. If you have never met people who resent renters then maybe you should just come to Foley and ask a lot of people in Owner Developments and you will find lots of them.

Hey Lexington folks, I am a UK Grad (Go Big Blue) and lived in Lexington for 15 years. My husband and I moved to Gulf Shores last June and we love it.

We should have a get together to watch a basketball game!

"We should have a get together to watch a basketball game!"

I love it. We just finished a season where the name of the game was throwing a ball. Now we are in a season where the name of the game is bouncing a ball. Next month we will be starting a season where the name of the game is batting a ball. I would think that as one goes from childhood to adulthood that they would find something more interesting to occupy their time. Well, I guess that spectator sports are just pablum for the lazy like reading 5-books every week. It apparently justifies one's time so that they don't have to feel guilty about doing anything meaningful.

Your husband is in school, you are an interior decorator just like I am a "consultant", you have kids and 3-dogs and have been talking to Realtors and doing research for a year. And you wonder why you aren't getting anywhere? You must believe in miracles.

Yea, you sound just like the usual dreamer who comes to a beach resort and finds that it is more appealing than where you are living and think that you can automatically come here and enjoy the good life when you can't even find a way to enjoy the good life where you are now. Come on down and find that you can't make it here on mostly a $7.90/hour job--if you can get one of those but, have a plan "B" back home for your survival since that is where you will be heading in about 6-months or less unless you bring lots of money with you or a skill or a college degree that might get you a job with a salary that you can live on. From the post that you just wrote, I doubt that you have either. Why not just save up a little money for the next 52 weeks so you can afford a nice week's vacation here next year like many people do and save up your money for a few decades and then retire here so that you can lead the good life that you think others who you have seen are now living. Maybe you should take a trip to Hollywood--it's also nice. Then you can stay awake at night dreaming about moving there with no money, no job and no hope just like you are doing now thinking about Gulf Shores.

Sorry, GMAB, but I am a northerner and apparently dense about this "fleeps" business. Would you care to explain what a fleep is? Or wtf he is talking about here?
Also, just to be a pita as usual, I would like to remind you that all vacation communities need some min wage workers. Otherwise how would we serve our wonderful visitors? It's all good. I am probably (once again) just confused.
You up for that drink tonite? First one's on me.

Then don't become one yourself. And, if you think that anyone down here is any different than myself in how they feel about renters--you can forget about that. A renter is hated in every development that they rent in. Renters are considered the scurge in any development and just the pawn of landlord investors that can't sell their investment properties due to the economic slump and will rent to the lowest form of life just to get some income. Like I said, come on down and rent a motel room for a few days and get yourself a REALTOR to show you around and then buy a house--if you can afford one which I seriously doubt because of all the other people who have inquired on this blog that can't and claim they want to rent until they can find a home to purchase. It took me about 4-days to do that same thing. I don't want to hear the sad story about someone needing to be here a year in order to decide where they want to purchase--do your homework at home and get serious when you get here. Otherwise, you are just like the rest of the incoming trailer-trash that uses renting as an excuse for buying and wants the rest of us to believe that you have a sincere desire to purchase and the ability to do it--NOT. GIVE ME A BREAK!
I have been coming to your area for over 15 yrs vacationing, shopping, and enjoying your beaches. Your attitudes with questions is pathetic. You must be a hateful godless person. You do not know the person asking the questions but yet you judge them hatefully. You make me want to switch vacation spots. If I think about it I have never seen a friendly face down there except if giving them money. This may be my last vacation there. I am glad God so blessed you that you are superior to everyone.

Don't bet on it. I find that being bitter makes lots of things more enjoyable. I'm a happy bitter person.
