Drove past it twice yesterday and took the old route through foley. LOTS of traffic in foley, seems some of the busineses on 59 are gonna pay off from their greed. I'm happy to drive around considering the 35 dollars it will cost me to take it. Thanks for making the decision easy "American" roads llc.

Will someone in some representative capacity do something about this scam toll bridge. For residents who live or ones who make thier living on the island it's equivelent to putting a toll at thier driveway. It's a state road from hwy 59 to the "troll" bridge. They now charge 3.50 to cross. Burn the bridge down and do everyone a favor.

I crossed this only because there was no signs on how much a rip off it was. Hey Alabama, you are going to repay me 10 times that much when I get done with you.
No shit. Whatever you own is fair game.

Gulf Shores and Foley should put up a sign on Rt. 59- South before the turn-off onto the Expressway and let it show what the toll costs. Then, Gulf Shores should put up a big sign just before the Rt.4 exit--which is the last exit on the Expressway before crossing the toll bridge and have it show that $3.50 can be saved by turning off at this exit. Fight fire with fire. And, if all else fails to get the toll lowered, then let Orange Beach negotiate another bridge over the Canal with less greedy companies.

Now that right there was a brilliant post. I knew you had it in you.:)They could at least let those of you who live there cross for free or at a much cheaper price. I personally don't mind the traffic on 59 but then again I only spend 2 weeks a year in your great county. I can see how it would get old having to drive it every day and put up with slowpoke tourists like myself who don't have a clue where they're going.

We should have known it was essentially a scam when there were NO signs indicating anything, not even that it was a toll bridge. So we get there with our collection of quarters and an extra dollar bill just in case.$3.50 the lady says. I was flabbergasted. "My goodness! What's the attraction?" I asked. "The Beaches," she said. Right. Meanwhile other roads work just fine and they're free. Meanwhile with traffic backed up over a mile we were feeling like the state of Alabama and whoever locally was responsible is not worthy of having out of town visitors. Government has failed its constituents with this one. At a minimum they need to advertise that there is a state-sanctioned robbery taking place on this road.

I can't tell you how much money I have saved because of the high toll. I'd swim across the canal before I'd give them a dime. And, where does it go? You still have to travel several miles to get anywhere after crossing the bridge. Stay on RT. 59 to the beach--it's free and there are lots of places to shop and eat along the way.

We are louisiana tourist and don't mind spending a little extra to visit your beautiful beaches, but we do agree that the locals should be allowed to cross for free, or at least at a much lower rate.

"I crossed this only because there was no signs on how much a rip off it was."

This guy has a very important point. It is almost criminal that there are no signs well in advance of someone committing themselves to this route and at the last minute finding out the extravagant cost of paying $3.50 is just to cross a canal that is only about 200 feet wide. I've crossed huge bridges across huge bays and rivers that only cost about $1.00-$1.75 and these bridges cost hundreds of millions of dollars to build and maintain. This is a concrete bridge with virtually no maintenance required so it is quite evident that the owners of this bridge are reaping enormous profits from it just for the sake of greed. I can understand why this guy is so mad--I live here and am equally mad.
