Glad I could be of some help. I too am in the process of trying to figure out a way to permanently make my great escape to the area. Maybe we should start our own cleaning business and have people work for US!!! Then we could enjoy the Hangout, Doc's and the beach on a regular basis. I am green with envy that you will be down there in a few weeks. I was wanting to go down this week but Ida cramped my plans. Enjoy your trip and be safe.

I live in NE Alabama, about 5 hours from Gulf Shores. We moved here from the St. Louis area Oct. 1999. I haven't been to any of those events you mentioned. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your grandkids. My one son is driving down from STL right now, (close to Nashville 3 hrs to go) for a week's stay. I am sooooo excited. I am wanting to get to G/S before Christmas for a week but am playing it by ear for now. Take care.

He made it here just fine. Thanks. I have never been to the baggage place but have heard about it. 2 1/2 hours east of STL? Hmmmmm got me thinking now. We were almost neighbors. LOL. Is the music festival going to be at The Warf? I know they get some really good performers there.

Just check out the wages for cleaning condos--they are practically slave-labor wages. You will have to work all day and clean about 4-condos and still not make enough money to pay your rent for a month. Cleaning condos is probably the worst paying job in Gulf Shores--these condo cleaning companies and condo real estate companies will work you to death for nothing. If I were you, I would never consider moving here if that is the best type of occupation that you hope for. You will work yourself to death and not get paid enough to bury you.

Give me a Break is pretty much right, there are retiree's around me that pick up a occasional condo cleaning job, it's really not worth there time. They are doing it just for the sake of doing something.

Actually you can make a lot of money cleaning - you make too many assumptions. I made $60 per hour cleaning central coast California. Not every client prioritizes the cheapest possible rate, in fact many prefer quality, longevity and competency. You can read about me services here - http://www.start-cleaning-business.com/index....

I clean condos in gulf shores and average $19 per hour. That pay is NOT unique to the company I work for so I don't know where yall are getting your info from. Retirees cleaning condos? I never saw that. It's very fast paced and requires lifting. The lowest paying job in GS? Don't think so lol. I keep looking for other work because I don't like cleaning, but I can't fins anything that comes close in pay!

After reading these posts I find something very interesting. I know someone who is making $15 per hour, and as Susanlynn said,$19 per hour cleaning condos. What I find interesting is that the security guards around here at these condos make $8 or maybe $8.25 and hour! That just doesn't seem right somehow. Especially during times like spring break when there are a lot of college kids in town, lets just say "having a good time".

I can't understand $15-$19/hour either for cleaning. I know one girl that got a job with a local condo cleaning firm and they treated her like a slave. Paid her almost nothing and expected her to clean several condos a day and then when they didn't have any work, they wouldn't call her for days on end so that she made virtually nothing. I would caution anyone who wants to get a job cleaning condos to be very careful who they work for and make sure they get all of the facts of employment before they take the job. I would be especially cautious about moving here with the expectations that you will be making good money cleaning condos--most likely, it won't happen.

There are always exceptions to every rule and for every Condo cleaner who latches onto someone who pays well, there are many more cleaners who are practically working for nothing.

Ok...sixty five dollars a condo.....but how long is it taking them to clean that condo, are they buying their own cleaning supplies, are they using their own equipment, etc?
Here again, the security guards that could get their butt beat are only making 8 bucks an hour! I think those guys are getting screwed!
