Do any of you have inside information on the need for qualified teachers in the area? My husband and I are considering the move. Here the need for teachers is great, so we know we will always have a job. We check the Baldwin county schools website and see a few postings, but I know that often they already have people in mind for positions. We have three sons, one in college and the other two still in school, so we need information about work environment as well as quality. Thanks!

I don't know but if I were a teacher and wanted to teach down here, the 1st call I would make would be to the Baldwin County Board of Education. I'm sure they have a handle on the need for another teacher depending on what your specialty is.

As my post said, I have already and frequently checked the website, but I know teaching positions are often political. Just because they post a job doesn't always mean they are genuinely seeking applicants.

I know, it's 'go with who you know' all over again. They are required to post positions to be legal but already know who they will select. School systems are one of the most political of all government institutions and along with the NEA are (have) destroyed almost any chance the average student has of getting a workable education. Maybe that is why in almost every job that I had, there was usually a fellow worker that once was a teacher but decided to do something else. What can I say? Maybe start looking into private schools and forget the rat-race of public schools.
