Anyone else tired of our high taxes and out of control spending in this town? Another raise for the mayor but they cannot afford to complete the East Beach sidewalks........Have you driven by Public Works lately? You can see more heavy equipment sitting idle at any time of the day in the parking lot than is working throughout the city. Drive by their Pine Drive facility at 3:30 any afternoon and count the city issued p/u trucks leaving. Seems like every employee has their own city vehicle. Some Aldermen (Ross, McDonnell, Hagan, Cody)forced through a small tax cut while others (Denyer and Dalgo) voted against it. enough is enough....this has to stop!!!

I'm tired of it. Drive down my street, Holcomb, one of the busiest streets in this town besides Washington and Government, and strap yourself in. It's a bumpy ride. A lot of the others have been taken care of in other wards. Where are you Chic?????????? Oh, that's right. He doesn't live down Holcomb.

Elections were in June. You lost. But then you probably enjoy that as now you get to whine pathetically for the next three years.

sounds like you are happy and perfectly content with your world. I'm glad for you. Just don't call me pathetic for wanting our leaders to do their jobs, ok??? Go back to your butterflies.

so you are happy with the way things are going? this blog has nothing to do with the elections. they are over and now it is time to hold those elected accountable to us, the tax payers. High insurance premiums, and high taxes are driving people out of OS and keeping others from moving here. We need help with the insurance issue but we can directly effect the tax issue and wasteful spending. Property reappraisals were not meant to be an automatic tax increase. We have to hold those we elected responsible. Demand that the county supervisors and city aldermen reduce millage to offset the additional taxes that reappraisal brings in. If they need a tax increase then vote for one and stop hiding behind reappraisals. Better yet why not have Sen. Moffat,Reps Guice and Zuber sponsor a bill that forces this!

"Your" elected city officials did lower the milage rate for this tax year. If you are going to complain talk to your supervisor "John McKay" ask him to lower the rate. Really what you need to do is understand the actual ratio of milage to dollars. Lowering 2 mils in the city screws the budget. So when the above "Holcomb" dweller complains about the street quality, he needs to realize that you can't ask for more things to get fixed *takes money for that*, with less money. The city gets its funds through the tax revenue? Are u dumb?

Roads ... you can't even get to the roads in a timely manner with all the non-moving traffic. The flow of traffic on HWY 90 in the evening shouldn't be stop, go, stop, wait, wait, wait, go, stop, wait, wait. Shut off some lights and get the traffic flowing.

Maybe that is why McElroy's is trying to get back to Biloxi. Insurance has to be the same so it has to be the taxes. OS was and still is in a good position after Katrina to take advantage with this 2% tax but how long can it last?

That 2% has kept ME from dining out in OS. I am finding more & more places in Biloxi & D'Iberville and trust me, Fat Mama likes to eat!

I just don't like paying for their games and giving the money to the favorites while the rest get the back of the hand. It was supposed to be for cops & firemen, not the Chamber advertising, attorney fees for private businesses,or any of the other nonsense the city pays for.

Hey Fat Mama! who are the favorites? You mean our KIDS who are getting the new tennis courts and ball fields now under construction? And our COPS and FIREFIGHTERS who are getting a new facility on Hwy 90? You are exactly right then! That is what the 2% is for that people voted for with 66% of the vote! Out of the $10 million initial bond, only 2% of that ($20,000) went to the Chamber to publish a small magazine highlighting our restaurants, louges and specialty shops that is in every hotel room on the Coast to bring in even more business. No attorney fees or any "nonsense".

Yeah, the 2% is really keeping customers away. That's probably why the number of restaurants/lounges has climbed from 65 before the 2% vote to 100 today.

Yes, but when the 2% is squandered to upgrade the facade of businesses in OS, it's not being used in the manner it was presented to the voters. Only idiots would voted for increased taxes AND a Democrat Mayor. As soon as this money dries up, the drunk will be asking the dolts on the board to increase taxes. Brace yourselves, it's coming. Mayor "Can I get another drink" Moron WILL increase taxes before she leaves office.

Sorry, Murphs! Facade funds came from the general fund, not the 2%! Get your facts straight and stop trying to misinform the public! In the meantime, guess the aldermen are never seen in lounges?? Hello?

The Chamber of Commerce paid for those facades and part of the 2% goes to the Chamber, which is bogus. Plus, some really wealthy people got that money. The Chamber should not need a dime from the cop and firemen money as it has the balls to charge us 2 dollars to attend our own festival.

Let's see, at least 100,000 people got suckered into paying $2, that's $200,000 for the Chamber which is plenty! Nobody knows how the Chamber spends its money, try asking for the budget, if you get it, post it here!

So for all we know, the Chamber spent its 2% money on facades, attorney fees, flowers and flat out gifts to "certain people".

I didn't pay $2.00 to go to the festival, I pay enough in taxes that if they ever start "Making You Pay" to go to the Peter Anderson festival..........well........ ..I just won't go. Besides they charge everyone who applies to have a booth a charge no matter if they are approved or not then they charge a fee plus sales taxes on top.

Daily Horoscope for December 6

Virgo

Luckily, you're less susceptible to people leaning on you today, but there's still a chance that someone might try to take advantage of your good nature. It's so darn difficult to stand up to them, partly because you genuinely want to help if you can, and partly because you don't want to be seen in a bad light. But you don't want to be seen as a doormat either, do you?
