Bad information is worse than no information at all. Take the time to get the story straight, even if it has to wait a day. Bad information can be damaging even when corrected the next day in the back pages of the newspaper where retractions usually appear.

I really don't see where the Democrat did anything wrong. They reported the facts as presented to them as valid from a reliable source--the CHP. Exactly how was the Democrat to judge the information as bad? What else were they to do and what should they do in the future? Wait a day or two? Magazines have that luxury. Newspapers are already at a disadvantage competing with electronic print and news and to further delay reporting, even if incomplete, is not necessary. They also did the proper thing in printing a follow-up story with more information as it became available.

all of thhose in town who complain about the DD are either subscribers or have bought the paper.
If not, you just have no justification to complain.
And no, I don't work for the paper or know anyone who does. And yes, I recently started my subscription.
