We NEED Tweed! Come on East Haven, get on board. The airport was there when they bought those homes, don't complain about it now. Tweed can only help the greater New Haven comunity.

I Been to the area and its really funny. 3/4 of Tweed is not only in East Haven, but some of it is also on swampland. How is it possible, when it floods almost every time it rain's, A Good Thing, to the point that they want to take more of this land. Plus the town of East Haven can't hold off building houses just because the airport is there. If New Haven wants to expand they should use their own land. Better yet sell to East Haven and call the Airport Tweed East Haven

They aren't taking more land as i understand it, they are merely making safety improvements. How can April fight safety improvements? Does she want people to potentially die?

How can you say that this air port was here before air planes. Many of these houses were in fact here before planes or even electricity. Also, I live in Branford. Nobody asked me if I wanted my property to go down in value from the holding zone they put over my home. This airport has lowered the value of all homes in a 30 mile radius.

Are we ever going to learn that the planet earth comes first? There is no need to expand the runway for safety. Leave anything unpaved unpaved. I wouldnot like to call this the black and blue planet. Who cares what humans want. we have already taken too much from our life support system, and more runway is the last thing we need. If we concentrated on what we need instead of what we want all of us would be better off.

Actually they are, including Dodge Ave which has to be re routed around the safety zone.(the same dodge ave we just spent millions paving and improving). Don't blame April this fight started before she took office. Pilots don't like Tweed because of its size, and Tweed was never designed to be a commercial airport.
Tweed is also an UNCONTROLLED AIRPORT. meaning anyone and anything can land there.
Forgive me for not believing people who've lied and tried to backdoor many situations when a lot of us don't take this as a back door to expansion.

Hey Mad in Branford, I agree with you that homes were there before the airport, but most of the people who live in those homes now must have bought them after the airport was built in 1931.

Let me start saying that the expansion of Tweed is a very positive thing and will bring jobs and strengthen our economy. Tweed will never be a super hub but eventually will bring conveniant links to DC, Atlanta , Chicago and Orlando. The new jets are quiet and can utilize shorter runways....however right now this is why the safety areas are planned to be put down as well as removing all the obstructions, so the planes could safely navigate in and out...planes like Delta used a couple of years ago and slightly larger would be able to use the runway safely. Another thing is I get angry when I hear people say EAST HAVEN is opposed....its actually a small amount of people and a bitter , selfish government like EH, who dont like change. Not all residents are opposed. Im one and live in East Haven. EH should worry about the speedway called Hemingway Ave, a deathtrap...another thing, if the safety areas arent placed, and an accident occurs, will EH government complain then? GO TWEED!!!!

They need to shut Tweed down . No need for it , New haven / East Haven nothing but a sewer ! Infact it would be nice to see them tear down everything in those cities and raise pigs . It would smell better . Don't worry when I drive by on the highway I always give to the city , a nice clammer !

New Haven Tweed is not an uncontrolled airport. It has a control tower in operation from 6am-10pm.

Whether it's controlled or uncontrolled makes no difference as to who can or cannot land there anyways.

What kind of jobs? A few more part time baggage handlers? Some more politically connected positions for friends? The aircraft you're talking about are short hop commercial flights. It will never be economically viable for an airline to run direct flights out of Tweed to anywhere meaningful. The flights will also be of a prohibitive cost, the airlines make money on volume. It's the same few businessmen and special interest groups pushing this airport expansion. They want bigger planes as business jets, easier connections for Yale students and visitors, and the stupid taxpayers to pay for thier shiny new airport. East Haven and Branford don't want it. No one in the area cares except a noisy few who it will benefit. Stratford doesn't want Bridgeports airport, we don't want New Havens.

Ok let me rephrase. theres a control tower from 0600 - 2200 and yes Tweed is an uncontrolled airport.

TWEED WILL CREATE JOBS...ALL KINDS OF JOBS. SECOND OF ALL I USED TO WORK WITH DELTA OUT OF TWEED. IT WAS A VERY POPULAR SERVICE AND BECUASE OF THE USERSHIP FOR BOTH DL AND USAIR, FARES WERE BEING LOWERED WHICH BROUGHT MANY PASSENGERS. UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS UNPROFITABLE BECAUSE WE COULDNT FILL THE PLANES DEPARTING BUT THE PLANE WAS ABLE TO LAND TWEED FULL. THE ONLY REASON THEY LEFT WAS BECAUSE OF DELTAS BANKRUPTCY IN 2005 AND THE FUEL COST RISE WHICH FORCED THEM TO CUT THE ROUTES THAT WERE HIGH COST LIKE TWEED. HOWEVER I KNOW THEY VOWED TO RETURN IF THE OBSTRUCTIONS WERE REMOVED AND SAFETY AREAS WERE PUT DOWN. IN THE SUMMER OF 2004 BOOKINGS THROUGH 2005 WERE ALWAYS BOOKED UP AND OUR CORPORATE WAS LOOKING TO PUT THE LARGER 70 SEATER WHICH IS BETTER OFF SHORTER RUNWAYS TO ATLANTA WHICH PROMPTED NORTHWEST TO PLACE DETROIT SERVICE IN. BUT WITH BOTH AIRLINES BANKRUPTCYS, ALL THIS DIDNT HAPPEN, AND THAT IS WHY DELTA HAD TO LEAVE. LISTEN PEOPLE DONT EVER SAY AIRLINES DONT WANT NEW HAVEN SERVICE, IT JUST TAKES ONE THAT CREATES COMPETITION LIKE DELTA HAD DONE, FOR OTHER AIRLINES TO START LOOKING.

One more thing , please dont use town names to justofy your opinions. YOU DONT SPEAK FOR ALL RESIDENTS.-

With the price of all fuels skyrocketing what airline in their right mind would want to come to Tweed anymore. Look at the economics! Tweed is no longer economically viable in relation to fuel prices and plane capacity. New Haven and Yalies need to give it up and move on to something else. Why not spend the money on helping the poor and educating the youth in your city?
