i work for a company that provided neg about 30% of their work. the equipment is so dated that these pressmen never stood a chance to produce high quality commercial work. while the rrd's and quad's of the world were constantly updating their equipment, queb stood pat with their dinosaur technology. i have nothing but good things to say about the csr's and sales people i worked with so it's a sad day to see them lose their jobs. i'm not familiar enough with the management to critique but for the last 10 years i've never heard an employee say anything positive about the powers that be in montreal.

It is my understanding that CT has been a finacacial drain on QW for some time. Antiquated equiptment, illeriate, un-educated work force. Shame, but they have to run a company. Nice for the stock holder that they are cutting some dead wood. Hope they get a good scrap price for the equiptment and building.

What a shame. I worked at NEG for twelve years, The plant was once a great place to work at and made money. The equipment is now so outdated and run down!. No money has been invested in that plant for a long time, could things have been different if Quebecor invested money there?. I dont pretend to know. However the poor folks at NEG never stood a chance.

My heart goes out to those who have lost thier jobs. After twelve years of working there I saw this coming and left, I not only left NEG but the Printing industry in general.

You are so clueless. The downfall started when World Color merged with Quebecor.

I read your posts-you are a lazy back stabber. You have no work ethics or respect for your job or company. If things were so bad why did you stay so long ? When you go for your next job interview leave your diapper bag and rattle in the car. Take mommy with you in case you need to be burped or breast fed. You are a cancer that drives good companys down .Do not forget to sign your application Mommys big boy. Good luck with potty training.

karl pierre peladeau once visited the NEG plant in 2005 and at the time I was a jogger, he just stood there staring at me as if I was doing something wrong and I would call it harrassment. He did not comprehend what a blanket wash was, so we could not wash blankets the entire time he was there. He seems very arrogant. Press maintenance stopped when they took over, I removed a press maintenance log from a filing cabinet on press 1 that was dated 1999 just last year. Cuts to production staff were massive and they started hiring temps to save money. It didn't. When they announced the closing of our plant, they told us we were going to receive 1 week of severance pay for every six months, which will be paid out as a supplement to unemployment benefits. They didn't say that we will never collect our severance payments since they are in Chapter 11, or that we won't be able to collect unemployment unless we can prove that is a factory forced closing. This is difficult to prove because in their WARN ACT notification they state that we will be given information concerning possibilities of job opportunities at other Quebecor World facilities. Many employees will not be able for many reasons, especially financially, to move away to another plant in another state. Nevertheless, do they actually have 300 or more openings to accomodate us? Our plant was phenomenal before they came and had excellent profit potential, now it is a shambles. This was deliberate on their part, a way to pocket profits, liquidate assets, and file bankruptcy so they can pay pennies on the dollar for all the services they received from suppliers.

Debbie.

Curious, you state that it may be difficult for employees to collect unemployment. Why would a non factory forced closing effect someone's unemployent benefits?. I could see the severence being effected by the chapter 11. But if an employee loses his job through no fault of his or her own should they not receive benefits?

OH! btw, unless things have changed a close friend was layed off from NEG a few years back and the severence package was a joke. The package was the difference between the unemployent total and the full paycheck from quebecor total and the Medical expired when he was layed off despite being told differently.

Someone chime in on the unemployent issue, because that doesnt make sense to me
