This is a very sad loss. It is one of the reasons I liked Northford so much. Now they are talking about taking down the old red barn on Route 17 near Old Post Rd. to build houses. Is Northford changing for the worst. Are town officials going to turn this beautiful farming community into anywhere USA? It was the last nice place in this entire area. Please pray everyone, pray for Northford.
I agree with you whole heartedly!! What happened to the town I always loved!! William Douglas School on Old Post Road a total disgrace. I went to grammar school there........the Schaeffer house across from St. Andrews Church; now Brooks Drugstore. I try to get up to Northford every year and everytime I go, I say "WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE"? I am 68 years old and it was a great place growing up. Everyone knew everyone. I am very sadded to see what has happened to Northford!!

It has to be the barn where Twin Rivers Ranch used to be and the horses were boarded. It's right across from where Old Post Road comes out onto Middletown Avenue.

I too am a daughter of Clarence (Red) Williams and grew up in Northford till 1978 when I moved to Florida. I never came home to Northford for a vacation without going to the Northford Store. I also grocery shopped at the store back to when it was owned by Johnson Brothers, then Cuomos and then Hintz. Not only was there a pot belly stove but there were gas pumps out in the front of the store. I did not know the new owners but my sympathy goes out to them and I hope they will rebuild. What a historic loss to Northford.

I too am a former Northford resident. Lived there till 1978 and then moved to Florida but always made a stop at the store when I visited family every year and sometimes twice a year. I am also the oldest daughter of Clarence (RED) Williams and remember the store as it was years ago when I was growing up with the pot bellied stove and gas pumps out in the front. The Johnson Brothers owned it then and then to Cuomos and then to Hintz. I did not know the new owners but my deepest sympathy goes out to them and I hope they will rebuild. A lot of history is gone from dear old Northford.

Terrible news...I grew up in Northford from the time I was 3 yrs old. We went to the Northford Store every week and to this day I can still remember wondering around the back of the store and taking stickers for Potato Chip bags and bringing them home...Northford has lost a great landmark..hope they rebuild to look the same.....

I grew up in North Branford but have been a huge fan of the history of the two towns and seeing an historic building like this burn is a tragedy. Really makes me sad.

Mr. and Mrs. Hintz, Natalie, Shelia,

I just came across this article. I was so sad when I learned of the fire. It's a terrible loss for our community. But I will never forget all the memories.~Tina and Matt

Old news. Who gives a sh-t. It was probably a successful fire because of competition from larger stores that weren't dumps like it was.

DO you have any idea what's going on with the old barn on rte 17? It's still there and I hear the new owners are taking it to the state level(or maybe have already) to get the permissions or zoning they need. Haven't heard anything in years, and wish it would just go back up for sale so maybe it can be farmland again. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Liz
