Hi, I'm on exalgo for a chronic pain condition. I talked to my pain management doctor and she was telling me about the medicine. Exalgo is so expensive because its engineered to become completely useless when someone tries to abuse it by heating, chewing or crushing. Plus it's impossible to crush, it's engineered to be like that. Snorting pills can damage your nose and respiratory system. If you're not getting adequet pain management from your exalgo, go see your pain management doctor for an adjustment.
YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN BREAK THESE PILLS DOWN TO USE IV. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE OUTSIDE COATING, USE CUTICLE CLIPPERS AND GO AROUND THE EDGE BETWEEN THE WHITE AND GRAY, SEPARATE THE TWO, TOSS GRAY SIDE BECAUSE ITS THE "ER" COMPONENT. SHAVE THE ENTIRE PORTION OF GRAY OFF, PLACE IN WATER APPROX 1 1/2 cc COOK IN MICROWAVE FOR 20-30 seconds. Take a butter knife, smash the white portion and mix into the water. All will dissolve, you will have plastic shell left over, toss. Draw it up and do what you do. You can either drink it or shoot it.

To be a psych major, your pretty damn stupid. Sure, there are plenty of people out there who need their pain meds to function, and yes, there are also a bunch of junkies who just want to abuse them......but, your totally wrong about Opana, people have found many different ways to inject them. I've heard it takes some effort, but they CAN extract the medication and inject it.
So -- I'll start by saying I have no issues with what people do to get meds or what they do when they are in there home. But question for the group -- I don't abuse. But I go to doctors trying to find what is rig for me and every new guy I go to I feel like I'm in trial. It's horrible. My back is destroyed and something like exflago could be a godsend for me. But I have to jump through hoops to prove I'm legit. Kinda sad. Anyone else feel my figurative pain? I know very few feel my literal pain.....

Part of the reason you are feeling the tightness in your chest is because one of the ingredients for the time release is a derivative of epinephrine (pure adrenaline). That's what you are feeling.

I've been told the reason these are so hard to "fire" is because instead of the gelling up in the spoon when heat or water hits it it will slowly over time gel up in your blood stream and gets deposited in your heart. This will obviously leave you with major heart damage and problems. Just an FYI and a word of caution. Also who knows if its true or just a way to scare people away from firing up.

I've never posted but let me share my two cents. First I want to jump in line with the write of the group who mentioned cutting the pill and why she (I think did it) because I too cope with severe chronic pain and guess what drum roll from my 19th birthday on I have suffered 4 days at a time of insomnia with a day crash after to days of such pain I am literally the last man standing fighting back the urge to scream. I have had up to 5 surgeries in a year with recoup times and zero results to more test next surgery and repeat. So I hear your pain and understand your methods and the science behind it basically BioAvailability, the body can only absorb modest percentage like 20-40% where intramuscular or intravenous is 80-100%. So as our bodies build tolerances the doctors and insurance companies try to hold us back with ZERO thought to US the sufferers.

$$$$$$!!!!On to Exalgo, first things first it sucks no matter how you take. I had 12mg 1 x day and up to 32 mg x2 a day and never any relief. Now I need injected it but I did try defeating the ER aspect with still blah results. Second thing is the pills are like 3800.00 US dollars so if your insurance has a max cap you will go through it right tight quick and be left holding a dumbfounded look as the pharmacist asks you to cover the 1400.00 balance. It's a crappy medicine and its stupid almost punitively expensive. Don't waste your money or your time. Tell your doctor NO and if he says he has a coupon laugh because its only good for 60.00 so 3800.00 minus 60.00 is still 3800.00. Bite me and thanks for the bend over!!!!!$$$$$

I have chronic back and neck pain. I was on 62.5
Fentynal patch for 5 years and never felt any pain
at all. I went on Exalgo three months ago (2..12's)
a day and still have lots of breakthrough pain. My
doctor, has always in the past, helped me find something that would eliminate most pain, but not
this time. He insists that I stay on Exalgo, no matter what I say. I told him I could not see paying $1100/mo for something that didn't do anymore than a much less expensive one. It makes me wonder if docs get a bonus from the
drug companies?? I have had injections that did
not work so now I am going to try accupuncture.
Has anyone had any luck with that? I have upper
back and neck deterioration and it is debilitating.
I have to go 900 miles to family wedding next week and don't think I can make it. There will be
hard feelings because no one understands. If anyone knows what I am going through, please
respond. I think I am going to go crazy.

I hear many of you comment about mm Opana I take Exalgo, but per my insurance company, raised their cost from $350 last month, to over $540 this month. That means our copays will again increase.
Although its expensive, it works for Erosive Arthritis. Seems I work just to pay my medical crap. So what about Opana? Is it better?
thanks for responding

The tightness in my opinion is related to ehatever illness you have You might ask your doctor about opana i get chest tightness too and although opana doesnot get rid ofit it greatly reduces the pain. also opana is at least twice as strong as exalgo for pain relief , but has fewerside effects than exalgo, the main one is you dont get high from it, you might for a few days, but then it ends , but it does numb the pain good i take opana 40 mg er 2 times a day.

Hi,
I was just prescribed Exalgo, a once-a-day, time released pain killer that uses a push-pull sysytem to deliver a constant dose of hydromorphone.
Out of curiosity I tried to cruch one without very much luck. I then proceeded to cut the pill in half & found (inside) one half was a VERY TIGHTLY COMPACTED white matter & the other half was a very tightly compacted gray matter. The whole thing is surrounded by what seems to be a pretty heavy-duty plastic-type shell with a pin-point hole in the center of the one side. My understanding is that the "hard candy shell" is passed out through the stool after the drug does its job in your digestive system.
So....doe anyone have any experience with these new Hydromorphone ER pills yet? They seem to be pretty abuse resistant. Just curious what others have experienced.
have u had any look n the abuse dept

I have been on various drugs for severe nerve damage and was just switched from 80 opana to 64 exalgo. So far it is not a good switch. Truthfully, I am tempted to crush them as per others experiences because I am not getting relief. Why do doctors prescribe them over regular hydromorphone? Do they get kickbacks? or do they assume we will abuse the other forms the drugs come in? My meds are in esxcess of $5000 that the ins company pays, but for how long. I agree that methadone os the best pain killer, as I took it for 5 years. I had a sluggishness that the opiates don't seem to have. Also on methadone there were sexual side effects. I am still in pain.

Hi I am prescribed 5 Opana 10 ir a day and keep getting switched around with er medications and I would just like to say you people that are bitching about the people getting "high" off of the pain pills are such "bad" people you are fucking hypocrite's, every time you take a pill I'm sure you get "high" off of it same as I do and saying you don't enjoy it is the most moronic thing I've ever heard, I haven't met a single person that doesn't enjoy a high granted just like me you are using it to take care of pain and probably can't function a normal peaceful life without them just like me. But you know damn well when you take those pills they get you high and you love it, I actually have more respect for the "junkies" on here because at least they are real and don't try to hide their true feelings and throw their own fucked up opinion on the other side of the spectrum. For all of the people attempting to snort or shoot these please be careful I know a lot of people in my area that used to cook the opana er and shoot them and it gave a bunch of people abscesses and it took the lives physically and mentally of a lot of my friends. Hopefully this new pill we are talking about helps my pain and withdrawals when combined I've decided to just swallow them because it seems like too much work and too much of a risk for me. But every judgmental fuck out there I would like you to look deep down inside and maybe bring a shred of you outside with you and stop lying to yourselves and others.

From Oxycontin to Opana to Exalgo....
I wish I could stay on my Oxy 30 mg. 3 x daily. I was first switched to Opana (blue) and couldn't take it. After waiting close to 2 weeks to get it I experienced shortness of breath and heart palpatations so bad I was ready to go to the ER. I was switched to Exalgo which took 2 weeks and 2 days to get filled. I pretty much went through withdrawal waiting for my meds the first time and am reluctant to even start the Exalgo because of that. I was told to take 2 every morning. Just getting them this week I took 1 before bedtime.(At least I slept). I'd rather rely on the percocets for now for pain because withdrawal from the opioids really was no fun. I'm tired of living the past 7 years in pain, nothing fully works where I'm at a low pain level and I'm trying to learn to just deal with it with the percs at this point. At least I could get the Oxy on a regular basis at the pharmacy. Yes, it is expensive even with insurance, but it seemed to help me the most. I can't work being on all this medication and I feel like its beginning to affect my brain/memory. Even though the Dr. told me to take it a certain way I plan on holding off as long as possible and taking 1 at a time. This weather has not been a help either! Even with injections and medication, the lowest my pain has ever been was a 5 (briefly). Usually I'm somewhere between 6 and 8. I can't even take care of my home feeling like this. All these drugs do is mask the problem and is not really fixing anything. Lazer Spine Institute does not take Medicare and who has $20,000 plus for their procedure? Explored every option possible. I'd love to have a normal, healthy and vital life again. I have no life, no work, no socializing, nothing! So tired of it all. Pain, pills, menopause, and a sedentary life sucks!

Suck off the white coating then bite it in half before swallowing. I do this just to get the effect sooner if I'm out of my fast acting pain killers and need immediate relief. Exalting is a wonderful drug that has almost completely eliminated my chronic pain!

Call your pharmacy talk to the pharmacist and tell them docs switched you and you need them to order it and have extra on hand in case you need an increase. Docs ripped me off 50mgs of methadone and put me on 32mgs of exalgo and 48 dilaudid. Have been sick for 2 months but called my pharmacist ahead of time and had all my drugs there in case I went back to methadone or had my exalgo upped.

I have been in pain management for three years after a car accident left me with daily, severe chronic pain. For the past year, I have been on mostly methadone -- 100 mg per day for a 125 lb young woman -- with 40 mg dilaudid for breakthrough (or actually flare-up of the constant pain) everyday and a few other nerve-pain non narcotic drugs.(on really bad days I snort dilaudid, or go to the doc to get it IV'd) The methadone is the best pain med in terms of low side effects for me. Oxycotin took the pain away well, but I got side effects like headache and nausea from it. I would try the methadone if your doc recommends it, as long as you have something for breakthrough pain. Dilaudid for me is the best for breakthrough, esp IV, though the doc has me trying exalgo now (though can't get it any local pharmacies for a week!)
Good luck!
