I wondered about the amount of time that was given to each car. One inparticular was a 1970 cuda "Ramcharger" that was only given 1min and 15 seconds on the block, with bidders still bidding and it "sold" for $300,000.00. There was quite a buzz about that particualr car, since just a few cars later, another cuda went for $550,000.00.
There was such a hype on that Ramcharger car, with SpeedVision and Barrett Jackson, and then there was no history or interview with the owner, as they usually do with high dollar cars. |

My dad took that car down there and Barrett Jackson messed that car up.Lawsuit is being filed currently.

So customer is going to be happy with everything?? 1. Betwteen 1200 consigners, 1200 buyers, 4000 other buyers, and 2000 family members someone is bound to get pissed off. It's normal. 2. A contract was signed and never gaurenteed time, price, etc. and he was offered 250K from chrysler for the car before B/J. Hmmm.$50K more. Duh!!!!! He got more than what the car was worth. He's being an ass.

I agree with the seller. I own 5 collector vehicles and have been to many car auctions. Barrett Jackson is the most unprofessional and hyped. I've seen "Spanky" the auctioneer insult bidders to get more money out of them ("Are you a man or a mouse...you gonna bid or not?"). Upper management talks about the ego's of the bidders and sellers, those egos are NOTHING compared with the Barrett Jackson people. I'll never attend another one of their auctions, and have discouraged upwards of 70 to 80 people from going to Barrett-Jackson as well.

Since I've been asked before, yes he's a grown man, and yes they really do call him "Spanky"... and he has the balls to insult people? LOL

I've heard some pretty good arguements for both sides, but the bottom line is this car should have been given more time just like they do on all the other high-end cars. Remember how much time they gave the Howard Hughes car that belonged to Craigs ol' lady?....The auctioneer didn't even pick up the hammer until the bidding was through the roof! Make no mistake! the auctioneer's know when a car like this should bring more money and they dropped the ball big time on this one!

You Guys all have good opinions. But I just watched this on the speed chanel with barret and jacksons contradicting was you have discussed. The car is a one of a kind and should of sold for over $ 500,000.00, it got short gaveled, and the auctionair should be held accountable. There should be a lawsuit for a $ 1,000,000.00, the guy should recieve the car for the $ 300,00.00 that he bid, barret jacksons learns a lesson that won't happen again, and a 1968 charger won't be sold on ebay for $ 400,000.00 again.

I just heard the claims set forth by B.J and they're crazy. By there owns words, theres no gaurantee of how long your car will be up there, theres no gaurantee that every bidders bid will be heard or recorded, theres no gaurantee that the auctioneer will give a final notice to all bidders, etc... WOW! I wouldnt take my car there if i had NO gaurantee that all the bids would be taken. I would think the auction house would want to get the most money for your vehicle and i know the buyers woulsd like it if they were heard and there bids were accepted. If that doesnt happen, why go as a buyer or a bidder?

I watched that particular sale after a stopwatch was hung over the entire transaction: Two minutes and ten seconds is more like the actual time. Bidding did get bogged down about halfway through at around 140K or so. The seller in my opinion had unrealistic expecations for the value of the vehicle at that time and place.

I saw the show and read the comments. Sounds like there are valid arguments on both sides. That said, the car put on sale at AUCTION... If a minimum amount was desired, it should have been stated up-front. What if the bidding stalled out at $150,000.? I tend to side with B/J on this one, and I'm sure they have all of the appropriate signatures in place to back it up.

there's a saying at auctions "buyer beware" that should also apply to sellers. That's what an acution is all about.
And if you think for a minute that they're not taking bids from the coke machine at the back wall, your mistaken. |

I was at that show. I would say Barret puts on a good show for car fans, outside of that "beware". They removed the no reserve to ensure they get paid for every car they have to handle thru the mill. They care very little about the average man. This car was very likely a $500k or more car. They threw a favor to a preferred buyer. Logic suggests that they wait for max price to get more commission, but the gavel hit fast while bidders were still waiving hands, explain that?
